If I remember right Cold Steel used to have another tomahawk in their line-up. Does anyone remember what it was called or have a picture of it. Anyone know why it was discontinued?

Edit: Been trying to remember the name for weeks and as soon as I posted it came to me. Plainsman. Still does anyone have pics or know why it was the only one discontinued?

it was discontinued, but now it seems to be back - the Frontier Hawk i think is what you are talking about, brother. it's Item# 90N

i love putting those on three foot handles, i'm currently out of all the new ones and have a couple originals that i hope to vectorize special sometime onto a composite handle- they are fighting sumbitchez IMHO.

so yeah, one could say that i like 'em.

it is called the plainsman. i can't tell you why they discontinued it but it is a good one to track down. pictured on far right.

Looks like the Rifleman hawk, with the hammer poll cut off. I think I remember when these were for sale.

I hate that it's discontinued. I think that's my favorite. The one reason that I haven't bought the Rifleman is the hammer poll.

you should just get one and lop off the poll then, brother.

Hey, I have one just like that right here next to me. Same paint job just a little more worn. Sorry about the lousy pic.

Hey, check out this article and techniques for the Viking Age Axe at :

http://www.hurstwic.org/history/articles/manufacturing/text/viking_axe.htm

The author seems to have his history reasonably correct and has done some good experimental work that you might find interesting.

Guess this shows what a 'throwback' you are to those time. 3 feet handles indeed!
BTW I'm going to have a section in this new book on these things as well.

I've never seen the Plainsman, I guess there Is a Collectable Cold Steel Hawk, I watch E-Bay quite often and havent seen one there, I guess the Folk's who have them are hanging on to them, One will show up sooner or later,

Thank's for the link to the Viking Age Site Dwight, There's some Good reading In there,

What'd you guys use to cut off the head?

i recommend a nice new hack saw blade - i like the fine teeth ones (i think that's in the 24 tpi range, maybe more...), brother, then file and stone it down.

no heat treatment jeopardy that way, and ya get a nice work-out.

the genes are strong, that's for sure.

anyone who hasn't felt like a zombie-whacking maniac in their life has never lifted one of my hawks. - they call up something from deep inside us all, if they are a proper hawk.

- pun understood, i still hear ya on the throwback-ness - my wife, a swarthy beauty, says i have clone sperm, after looking at our blonde and green/blue-eyed little girl - i am sure she had an ancestor-female that fought right alongside her men in what is now Northern Europe, and there is historical evidence of such gals.

....i was hoping for some dark-eyed Day-Fighters personally - but i reckon God knows what he is doing...:D:thumbup:....

Third Wife will have to be from Africa. ;)

my littlest one seems to be overly-facinated with the hawks too - she has called them Hammer Hawks since she learned to talk... - no hawk goes out the door to an Investor without her close perusal and stamp of approval. - no one coaxed her into being the QC department - she just demands to heft them and evaluate each one.

'makes ya wonder.
