The Outage wasn't Our Fault

Hey guys -

Here's the deal. You know how Microsoft has been having problems with their websites over the last few days? Well, it turns out that there was a pretty big security flaw in BIND, which is essentially the "white pages" of the internet.

BIND is a nameservice protocol that is used by the vast majority of hosts out there. So, when Microsoft found a big problem with it, an emergency patch was issued. Leading, naturally, to the recent outage because our host screwed up the record conversion for BladeForums.com

Anyhow, long story short - it wasn't us, we're good to go, and everyone laugh at Microsoft for using Linux / Unix nameservers instead of their own WinNT

It wasn't just bladeforums.com that got bit. Many sites suffered. MicroSlop screwed up in a big way this time. Some have commented, "I could get in from work, but not from home..." or some such variant. Well, if your work and home have different ISPs (Internet Service Providers), one using MicroSlop software and another running a different software suite (perhaps a Linux variant), then that could easily be true as this problem afflicted only those using MicroSlop programs. Unfortunately, it seems that bladeforum's ISP uses MicroSlop software, so that really made it hard on us.

Anyway, I know that Mike and Spark have put in a lot of extra time on this one over the last few days chasing a problem that wasn't their's. Thanks guys.

Thanks, Spark. Good to know. I thought for awhile that it was my ISP.

I hate Major Screwups (MS).

Spark, something that may be your fault, or at least something You can fix is that the quote button icon now looks just like the profile button. Another goofy image index problem I guess...

Hey, without the E-Vile Bill Gates and MicroSlop...how many Members would Bladeforums have? 1,000?

Ok, ok... truth be know, Mike was standing a bit to close to the router when his Halo misfired and cut "the big pipe".

Spark tried pouring a bottle of Stop Leak into the top of the router, but that just made it smoke.

It was a bad scene, but now you know the truth. And shame on you guys for trying to blame this all on poor Billy Gates.

I'm hoping all the email I am getting from everyone asking me to Fix them up will stop.

I can't fix anything. I'm better at breaking stuff.

Thanks Mike and Spark for all your efforts to correct this problem.
Until something like this happens you don't realize how much you would miss this place if it were to ever shut down.

It actually was Sparks fault. He was dancing in the server room in his new Tutu and triped over some wires

It's all your fault. I meant to enter the BladeForums and talk knives with my fellow knifeknuts but the little blinky thing on my screen was on other written thingamabobs and I clicked and wound up at the VOTE FOR GORE/LIEBERMAN site. The www is all screwed up for having so many things that he little blinky thing can get you to and I get soooo confused. I have rights! I have been harmed! The government owes me! I may not know how to click correctly with the little blinky thing but I know I have rights!
