the outlook of sebenza..

"Sebenza (plain) is ugly but practical"

In my case you are referring to the user and not the knife.

I only own one folder, a large Classic Sebbie. I certainly didn't buy it for it's looks, but rather for it's function. It's currently in HI getting Mayonized. This may improve the looks a bit, but that's not why I sent it to Tom, but to improve the function. I really couldn't see how anyone could improve on this knife, but too many have raved about the magic he works on Sebbies.

My other EDC is a Busse. Same deal. I would hesitate to call it beautiful in a pretty sense, but as form follows function it is perfect for me. The 2 make an ideal pair. Neither are elegant, but beautiful in their form.

My lg Classic is on the way back from Mr Mayo too Rob.I can't wait to get it  I also have my lg Classic w/Cocobolo that is beautiful to use and look at imho ;)

I remember when I saw my first Sebenzas. They were decorated Sebenzas. Although I was into knives I guess the bug hadn't bitten as deeply. I remember seeing them in the knife shop I patronized. I wasn't too impressed as I was more interested in knives like the Emerson CQC7 which I was there to buy. Like all my friends I was caught up in the "tactical folder" craze - you know black blade, g 10 scales, combo edge. The thing I found most impressive about the Sebenzas was their cost...it seemed astronomical for such unimpressive knives. Fast forward to today, I haven't bought an Emerson or Benchmade in years. I kick myself for not taking a greater interest in those decorted Sebenzas. Whatever the cost it was probably less then it is today. I think the Sebenza, decorated or plain, is a thing of beauty. Oh well. When I was five I was positive I'd eat ice cream for dinner everyday when I grew up.
