The overall process of my knife adventure.

Sonny, it is fun, but it feels good to finally figure out what you like and what you're happy with, doesn't it? There is a Snody Titanium Elite calling my name though....
Oh gosh, here we go again lol.

BladeChick, it does feel pretty decent to have a more refined idea of what type of EDC folder makes me happy. I am finding out that a 3" blade pretty well handles my casual needs, and I "control" them more easily than the 3.5" SMF's, ZT's, Sebbies or Zaan. It has been a fun-time educational experience for me, but nobody said that "book-larnin" is free.
However, I do need to check in to that Pinnacle and Snody that you are talking about. You have very good taste.
Sonny

CC - The Cryo is a cool little knife but not really my taste, the Skyline is a really good knife, I'm looking into getting some of the limited ones.

Nate - I'm glad you've found some stuff you enjoy, you'll end up making a full round lol. I'm only 21 as well actually.

Dale - I'm glad I'm not alone, though our ages are different and I've been in this for a much shorter time than you have. A lot of people here would consider me young and probably inexperienced. I would agree with the young part, and I may not have the same experiences, but I have my own.

Nic - Getting a Sebenza is definitely worth it. I've owned the Small CF Sebenza and a Large Plain Jane. They're truly great knives, but don't ever give up your Benchmades and Spydercos that are great knives just because you got a Sebenza. You'll miss them, trust me.
Buyers remorse sucks, I've never really had buyers remorse, but there have been a couple that I wish I would have gotten what I was originally looking at. One knife I really want is one I'm going to have to get without handling it, but I'm convinced I'll love it lol.

Sonny, the Pinnacle is hard to come by but they do show up on the Bay sometimes and every once in a great while they show up here. It's especially hard to find one in plain edge anymore. Sooo.. I got a combo edge, it didn't stay that way for long though. =] The Snody is a really neat knife and I've looked at one for a long time, I believe I'm going to trade into one lol. Thank you very much, you have good taste as well. =] I've definitely rounded my preferences out.

Saturday was a tough day for me as I perused many of the vendors at BLADE 2013 in Atlanta for something to spend my meager stash on... I tried to get interested over the preceding months, but I, too, had maxxed out on a collecting plateau. I could have had a serious amount of dough... maybe enough for a large Sebbie. Instead, I bought a giraffe bone handled Gecko fb knife from Arno Bernard, Sr, himself. My $120 purchase was pretty cheesy, but it was what I wanted, and joined my collection of five larger AB knives - not! I removed the belt loop from the cape buffalo sheath and eased the scales for easier holstering - even resharpened the 2.5" Bohler N690 blade - I've used it that much since getting home Saturday evening. I had spent three times as much last year on my one purchase at BLADE 2012 - a Lion Steel SR-1 - and it went into my drawer upon arriving home with it - and stayed ther until Thanksgiving! Yep, we all have high and low points in our 'collecting' history. Mine is confounded by a childhood of constantly moving - and not taking anything. I am a now classic hoarder, too - albeit I have no used pizza boxes! That's my excuse for 'keeping' too much stuff - knives included.

Oddly, the $120 AB fb joined my recent folder goodie - a Spydie CF Dodo on the half price clearance stash - $109 w s/t - too neat to pass up - too weird to not carry! Gluttony sent me back for a second one a day later. I had that - and a Buck 110, my longest loved knife model, in my pocket at BLADE - and felt 'complete', having first carried one when Nixon was Prez... it's an affordable classic!

Stainz - it doesn't matter if you only got a $120 fixed blade. If you love and use it, that's what matters. I'm sitting here looking at my knives thinking "Hmm I could get rid of them and have enough to get a couple of higher end knives"... then I think "Nahhhh..." Lol.

=]

Lycosa - Well, I did just that and let me Strider go.. I feel no remorse.
And hello there Rolf. =]

I am very happy with Spyderco and to a lesser extent Benchmade...although the BMs I've got are very nice. I was fixing to make the jump to a Large Sebenza (which would no doubt have been followed by a small - vice versa) and then all of a sudden, 10 days ago it happened! I lost my Endura FFG in gray. Nothing fancy but it was I nice one that I had modded by stripping the paint off the pocket clip and had completely reprofiled (which I find all Spyderco's need...or at least benefit from). I had my little grandson with me that weekend so I was way more distracted than usual. I used it a couple time to open up juice boxes and stuff for him and punch a little vent hole so he doesn't squirt all the juice out the straw...which he thinks is great fun. I may have set it down and not put it back in my pocket. It may have hooked on something and fell out. Who knows. All attempts to retrace were foiled by the fact that, being distracted, I didn't check it until next morning...NO KNIFE IN THE POCKET. *minor sob*

So while I am by no means off the idea of a Sebenza, it sure makes a man think. $60 plus shipping and I'm back in business with a new Endura. Makes a body think is all.

It's a funny game, this knife hobby. I've done the same thing a number of times and will likely do it a few more times, and I'm OK with that. While we might not want to admit it, most of us get caught up in the "want" or "must have" part of the hobby and checking out all the sweet knives other members are getting doesn't make it any easier. I've been guilty of following the masses a number of times and bought and sold more than a few "grails" along the way with more questions than answers at times. While I've been lucky enough to have owned a number of the highly sought-after knives from a few of the stars of knife-making, basically all of them have been nothing more than short-term leases, so to speak.

At this time, I currently have a collection of two high-end knives. One is a recently purchased Seb 25, while the other is a Techno. I'm thinking of moving the 25, as it simply doesn't do anything really better than the Techno(other than offer a bit more blade length) and is a fair bit more pricey.

It's very satisfying coming to the conclusion you can be absolutely content with less pricey knives. At the same time, I don't think you could come to that conclusion had you not checked out the "grails". In this game, it's an itch you need to scratch.

Knife collecting is a very interesting game to say the least. I've only been in this game for about 2 years or so, but it's quickly become an overwhelming obsession. I still haven't really moved beyond the $150 product range yet, and at the same time, I am becoming increasingly wary and afraid of when I may. I still have the first $20 United folding karambit that started this obsession, and I still love it and carry it at times. I find that it's actually the more expensive ones that I carry the least. To be honest, I hope that I never make it into the realm past $150, as I don't think my bank account could take it, and to be honest, there is really no justification for me to do so. I have been extremely fortunate at this point to have acquired most of my higher end knives at great deals through forums or trades. Right now the only knife of my collection that really sees constant pocket time is my Yojimbo II, and I was able to get this one for only $90. I truly, truly love this knife and I really don't see myself ever turning it loose without a second one to take its place. At the same time, I look at some of the folders that Jason Brous is turning out, and my resolve to stay below the $150 limit is slowly crumbling.
