The pain of losing a favorite EDC.

I recently lost my fluted titanium Spyderco Miltary that I have been carrying for years. I now suspect everybody that I know who has recently been in my house. Just let me see a little bit of fluted titanium sticking out of someone’s pocket and it’s over. I don’t care if Spyderco made more than one.

Seriously, the pain of losing a knife is real.

I understand this pain . :(

The worst was a early model Spyderco Police , all stainless and serrated . I'd carried it for many years , everyday for real .

Lost it in the big upper field in the tall grass , thought it was gone for sure .

Kept looking and praying for many days and by some miracle managed to finally retrace my steps and walk almost over it .

Just caught a glint of reflection from the sun off the shiny folder or I'd never have seen it .

Oh Happy Day ! Much rejoicing .

Hope you too find yours ! :)

The Six Stages of Knife Grief

1) Denial ("I'll never find another knife like that ever again.")

2) Anger ("I know Charlie, my neighbor, made off with it. I just know it. I'll fix him.")

3) Bargaining ("Please, God, please, hit Charlie with a bolt of fucking lightning.")

4) Depression ("I'll be sad forever or until the day Charlie dies.")

5) Acceptance ("It's okay. I know where Charlie parks his car.")

6) Meaning ("With Charlie out of the picture, and my knife back, maybe I'll have a nice cup of tea with Charlie's wife.")

The worst of it, is you get gun shy and stop carrying it out of fear of loss. Having a favorite knife at home in a box is not much better than actually loosing it.

It’s better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved.

This is exactly right ! :)

To this day , working out in the field , woods , trail etc , I will NOT carry any of my irreplaceable models .

I have plenty of great knives that can be replaced , easily and not too expensively . Not too many tears if lost .

I understand what you're saying about loving and losing ...but forgive me for NOT agreeing if I don't have to risk it . ;)

That sucks bro

Losing one sucks. Lost my beloved Sere 2K once for quite a while. Was totally bummed.

Damn thing turned up under the car seat. We were cleaning it out to sell it, so it’s damn lucky I felt that handle poking out under there.

I'm sorry for your loss my friend, and I'm sure you've scoured your house up and down, but these are the places I always check when something goes missing in case it helps:

- under the couch cushions,
- inside the couch (if applicable)
- under the bed
- in the refrigerator
- under the seats in my car
- in the trunk
- on the bookshelf you rarely look at
- next to a plant (if applicable)(plants are good camouflage, even inside)

They often turn back up-hope it happens for you.
Indeed. I lost a Bugout that I was very fond of. Ended up buying an identical one and the lost child turned up in the couch cushions a few weeks later. Good excuse to mod one of them.

I feel your pain. I recently lost a Centauri. Its got one of G2s beads on it that he put on before he sent it to me. Now I'm looking at people's pockets as well. The sickness is real. Can't have nothing nice. 😐

My old man bought me a Winchester "One of 500" run of knives from a dealer back in 1998 when I was a junior in high school. I think Queen was making them back then.

It was a mini Texas toothpick and a nice little knife. I lost it, and figured it would never see ot again.

Flash forward to 2001, my girlfriend is cleaning out her Celica before swapping it out for her folks old Audi, and there it is on the backseat floor board with just a few specs of rust. We dunno how it got back there short of the fact that teenagers can find all kinds of ways to get into mischief in the most cramped of places if left to their own devices.

The good news was that she and I had broken up for a bit our freshman year of college. I might have never seen the knife again if I hadn't bitten bullet and ended up marrying her 😉
