How much does the pants that you are wearing dictate the knife that you slide into the pocket, or does it at all?

I carry four different knives-

CRKT Voodoo, Kabar Black Thorn, Browning Icestorm, and a SOG Sculptura.

Most of the time I don't carry the SOG unless I'm going to an event where I need to dress up and don't want a big knife clip sticking out of my pocket. I carry the Browning if the pocket is deep enough because the clip virtually hides the knife, because it drops down so far. The Kabar is a pretty thin, non-obtrusive knife to I carry it when I'm wearing pants with small pockets, I carry the CRKT when the others don't apply.

That pretty much gives me a knife for every style of pants that I have, know I need to come up with some more wife convincing reasons to buy a new knife.

Footnote: None of these apply if I'm doing something other than every day things. I've got a couple other knives for that.;)

I wear scrubs at work so my work EDC has to be a lot lighter or it drags my pocket down. I have found once I get to about 2.7 ounces that is too heavy.

In my everyday loafing around clothes (shorts or jeans) my EDC is currently a Strider SnG or a Graham Brothers 2" FB. Really no limitation, as long as if feels comfortable in my pocket.

If dressed up in a suit or nice slacks I have found that some clip knives fit funny because of the cut of the pockets. I also tend to go with a fancier knife if I 'm dressed up. Usually it will be my William Henry or a custom W.C. Davis lock-back.

The pants make all the difference in the world, and then what I'm wearing in general. Whether or not the shirt is tucked in, if I'm wearing a belt, khakis versus slacks versus jeans.... I have something for every occasion

and what about skirts? whole other ball game there. Lighter materials... no pockets just a wasteband. Things us gals have to consider. When you have a nice knife you want to use it and show it off too when you do use it so it has to be handy.

Hi Flashpoint,

right now I don't really "carry" anything but I do have a few knives - other threads. I keep my folding knife on my keyboard here which means everytime I need to attack something I have to come in here to get it to take it where I need it which is why I am interested in knives/sheaths that clip on to clothes somehow. I am shopping for another good knife
(on yet another thread).

What do I do? I wear many hats. I handle consignments and research/product photography and my part of the catalog for an auction house. I sometimes need to get into boxes and cut through heavy tape or open a letter or maybe on lax days cut up my dark chocolate bars. I noticed the post on "pants" and thought gee... what about skirts! has to be other gals on here....

So... how about IWB (Inside the Waist Band) carry?

I'm not generally in favor of neck carry but it does fit the bill sometimes. In some environments (hospitals) it is very common to see staff running around with pens attached to neck straps. Also more and more people are carrying their ID badges/cards this way. This might work for skirt wearers and scrub wearers if they could find a VERY sheeple friendly design or if they had a covert way to gain access from under the top they were wearing.

Back to the original question, although I only have one firearm I routinely carry and must adapt to different modes of dress I do maintain several different EDC knives based on what I am wearing.

My ex's old jean skirts had useless back pockets, but she used them for her minigrip...otherwise, it's in her purse....

If you spend the summer in shorts, Sportif's 'Stretch Cargo Shorts' - probably not intentionally - seem made for outstanding folder carry.

The 'watch pocket' on these shorts is a perfect 'knife pocket', measuring 2" wide X 5" deep. The pocket comfortably accomodates a Strider SMF or similar folder size. It also carries the knife conveniently high (no more clip-scratches) and to the rear of the right front pocket for easy front pocket access.

Another feature of these shorts (if you're tired of baggy-ass shorts drooping over your knees) is that these are the only men's shorts available with a 4" inseam.

For jeans-carry, I slash the inside bottom of the watch pocket to accomodate clipped folder carry in that pocket. I find it much better than simply clipping to the pocket - fewer clip-collisions/scratches and better access to my right front pocket.

Seems the older ya get the lighter and smaller our EDC's get. 15 years ago I carried a modified K-bar inside the waistband nearly everywhere I went. Today I'm down to a Buck Squire in my front pocket :)

A little neck knife like the emerson attached to the bra center with a few wraps of the chain and through. Blouse in pull a little out and use a belt clip . Blouse out use the same belt clip or neck set up.

Knife over three ounces I carry in a belt sheath. I usally wear a Wilderness belt so I can carry most any pouch type in comfort.

Be well

doesnt really affect me much, since they are usually levi's and both my striders and my spyderco spyderfly all have pocket clips that fit just right. (coin pocket isnt an option since there is always a lighter in there) so i go with the pocket clip. unless im going fixed blade then the belt matters more than the pants ;)

Oh, very much so!

In jeans, I'll strap on a Leatherman Charge, clip on a 3.5"-4" folder, and drop one of my bigger slipjjoints in my pocket.

In shorts or lightweight technical pants, I tend to go with my old-skool LM Wave or similar or a larger SAK, maybe a lightweight folder like my Calpyso Jr, and a light slim slipjoint.

In dress slacks or a suit, maybe a LS Juice SC4 in one pocket, and a fancier gent's slipjoint in the other.

Even in jeans, the size of the watch pocket varies, which sometimes limits the size of the slipjoint I can wedge in there. Levis are the smallest, I mainly wear Lee for that reason.

I pretty much only wear Carhartt jeans, so I have no problem packing a Benchmade in each front pocket...An 805s in the left, and a 721s in the right.

What pants I wear on what day totally dictate which knife I carry. Decent sized jeans, my waved Endura. Little itty bitty jeans or low-key-there-are-sheeple-around, it's my Meerkat.

Actually, LindaJ, one reason why I respect Frontsight and her hideaways so much is that she's put a lot of work into developing a number of carry options that work equally well for men and women. I think she's probably the only knifemaker I know of that has put some serious thought into situations like 'what if you don't have pockets'? Yes, you can always carry your knife in a purse but since a lot of people seem to care deeply about how accessible their knife is and how quickly a knife can be deployed, I think that's a fairly big minus.

Maybe TKC or any other female knuts who constant-carry can give us some insight on what they do?

My Rat Trap is rather slim so it goes anywhere (well, rats do).
I have a problem though - I really need a knife when wearing a swimsuit - a super stainless necker, or maybe a Spydie clipit from Salt series.
