The Para 2 Crave

To start this off, I'd like to say I was never a Spyderco fan. I didn't like how they looked, I didn't like how they were built, I didn't like how thin they were, etc etc. There were alot of things about Spyderco I really didn't like, but...that's changed. I finally started to really play around with a few Spydercos and I really started to like them. They really grew on me, and I started searching around for one I could really dip my feet into the water with. I found the Paramilitary 2. It fit my needs exactly for an EDC knife. One that would do a little bit of everything. I've been craving for this thing for like...a couple months now. I've checked out a few at knife shops, watched countless review videos, gawked over alot of your guys' pictures, and the whole works.

Well, here comes my problem. For the past month I've been really hurting in the cash department. I just can't justify dishing out $100-150 for a knife at this moment, maybe in the future but not at this current time. I -really- want that Para 2, but I just can't pay for it right now so I was looking around at all the other Spydercos and they just don't really appeal to me as much as the Para 2. For one, I really dig the full flat ground blade. I really don't like the Spydercos with the saber ground edge or whatever it is they call it. Also, I liked how smoothly the Para 2 opened up. The blade shape, the scales, etc. I like all of it. So, my question for you guys is, is there a budget Spyderco that can very closely relate to the Para 2? I want something I can try out and see if I want to really get into this line of knives.

Thanks ahead of time, guys.

There is no substitute for the Para 2. I am also not that into folders but I always carry one at work so thats how I justified it. Keep saving and checking the exchange and you might get one at a discount. Best of luck!

I figured someone would say keep saving. :D it's hard, man. I need a new folder now, not later. I'm actually a fixed blade guy, myself. I EDC a fixed blade, but I also like to have a folder on me aswell. I've been carrying a beat up Kershaw Tone for over a year now, and I love me some assisted opening but I've seen people use the Spyder hole just as fast which is one thing that got me interested. So, yeah, I need a quality folder now because mine is really worn. I may EDC a fixed blade, but the folder in my pocket sees more "utility" use. It's not as scary for me to flick a folder out as it is for a fixed blade. I understand saving up and getting something of great quality, but I just need to go with what I have now and buy something new. I'll get the Para 2 eventually, no doubt.

The Para 2 is well worth the $99 that the standard model costs.

Just put it on the credit card ;)

I'd say the Para2 is one of a kind.I know money is tight nowadays and I used my credit cards for target practice years ago.Back in the day when I was a Kid,money was tight then too.Lots of ways to make $100 on the side, painting, cutting firewood, ect.:)

As mentioned, just save up for the Para2. Do it right the first time, there's no need to get a feel for it by buying something to try out that you know you're going to replace anyway.

If you are short on money don't get the Para2, cause you will probably want to buy more Spydercos after you get the Para2.

Buy once.. cry once. Para 2 is a phenomenal value at $100. At some point a $100 knife will be like a drop in the bucket compared to your "wish list"..

As I mentioned I carry my Para 2 at work, for my off work knife I carry a Kershaw Skyline. It is not as tough as the Para but it is slim and I like the blade shape. Oh and its $30 and made in the USA. As long as you are not beating it up I think its the best all around folder value there is.

I agree with the first part. The Para 2 is absolutely worth the 99$. But I do not disagree with the last part. DO NOT put it on your credit card. If you are low on cash, then save! You will get more satisfaction out of your purchase if you save, and no backlash by having to pay rent, or being reminded of your debt by letters.

Save, get hyped while you save, then once you got it you will have a better feeling about it.

I hate saving money, but when I do it, and I buy something I really wanted for a while I get a really good feeling about it and no second thoughts.

+1 the Tenacious is a very good knife for the money. Just have to sharpen it more often.

I just picked up my first para 2 in the exchange her on BF. They seem to come in waves. You may not see one listed for a couple days, then BAM there are four or five up for sale, most at great prices. You might want to check out (and I'm not sure if this is kosher to list websites) cutlery shoppe.com PM2@ $96 and free shipping if you use promo code "nutnfancy". I understand being tight on money, I had to wait until my GI Bill came in to but it, but pull the trigger and make the purchase, you will not regret it!

+1 on the tenacious. Also check out the endura4. Big ole FFG!
+1 on the Endura 4. I actually like the Endura 4 more that the PM2, but my only Endura is saber ground and a combo edge. They have an FFG Endura that is amazing, and I have noticed that the VG10 suits me just as well as the s30v. Military uber alles. Sadly, my phone has no alt keys for umlauted 'u's, but there is supposed to be an umlaut on uber.

Another vote for the Tenacious - crazy good for 30 bucks.

Btw Im a huge Para2 fan, probably my fav folder.

I have the digi s30v + the cts 20cp sprint paras but I have to say the tenacious will sort you out for now...

+1 for the Tenacious. its no substitute for the Para 2, but its a fantastic knife for $30, and you will eventually buy a para 2 anyways, & you will love them both! Plus, you can beat on the Tenacious without feeling guilty at all!
