The Para 2 lock stick

What's the problem with delaying the break-in process on a compression lock? Its not as if it doesn't work as well when its not sticking - provided the liner moves in between the stop-pin and tang enough to make for a solid lock-up, it should be fine.

I guess I don't see the down side.

If you look at the quote I wad replying to it would make more since. He asked if the graphite helped polish the parts. And I never said it was a negative. Though a few people in the thread have said it has taken them thousands of openings and the knife still isn't buttery smooth. If you don't mind openings the knife 10k times to break it in then I guess there is no problem. Except I wasn't saying it was a problem to use graphite in the first place...

My experience w/ the 5 P2s I own and the others I have handled is that there is a dramatic variation in lockup, detent strength, etc from knife to knife. I have 3 P2s that dont have sticky locks and 2 that do. My 20cp w/ the extremely sticky lock has gotten better w/ time but it still isn't where it should be. I am sure that in time it will work itself in.

My Para2 doesn't have that problem but if it did I would apply a tiny dab of semi chrome to the back of the blade where the comp lock mates. It may take a few times but I bet that would polish the area enough to make it smooth. You could flush it out with Break Free clp.Just a thought.

It's a pretty common problem with the Paramilitary knives. I've seen plenty of complaints about it all over this board and others. And I'm not sure how macro shots would help diagnose it.

I guess I got two good ones. Of course the S90V version I have is never used but the lock doesn't stick now anyway. Perhaps later after breaking in it would. Personally I don't mind and in fact kind of like when the locks stick some so long as it doesn't hurt to make it free up the blade.

Have you tried the Sharpie marker trick on the contact area where the lock meets the blade?

I didn't have the sticky lock with my satin Para 1 or my Yojimbo when I had them. I do have it with my DLC Para 2. The pencil trick helps a little bit, but it eventually gets sticky again. It's a little annoying, but it's not a big deal for me. I had a Gen 2 Hinderer XM-18 that had the worst sticking lock I've ever dealt with. The problem lasted for months, but eventually went away. I figured the sticky lock on my P2 would eventually go away as well. Time and high repetitions will tell. I still love the knife.

Ah... That does make a lot more sense. BTW I wasn't trying to call you out (after re-reading my post it does sort of read like that). I was just genuinely curious.

Use the sharpmaker to CAREFULLY file down the lock bar. It takes a while... go slowly and test it out very very frequently to prevent overfiling.
