Is that your thinking chair; I've got one in my shop and it fits my butt perfectly. Seems if I'm comfortable, I think better.

See you at Johnstown buddy.

Nah, I think it's just if you keep your brain warm, the blood flows better.;):D

thank you sir, i appreciate it... 2 more weeks to go and 2 more knives to do i hope i get them done

i finished the fighter today :)

I'm loving seeing them pop up Lon.

I know the hand work is great but gotta admit I'm really impressed with that mini mill! :D I'm surprised it can do much - bet it was a long job!!

thank you, the mill belonged to Perry Elder i bought it from Mrs. Betty 2 years ago. its all you need to slot guards. that slot took me more time to lay out and set up than it did to cut it

so i talked to Jerry Fisk after i put the last little vest fighter up and he said the handle was too fat and he would work it down so it wasn't any wider than the drop edge sooooo i did

i dont like it but im not a judge :)

the grinder and i were friends today. the gods of warped steel must have taken the day off because it came out perfect and the other bowie is on the scrap pile i couldn't get the kink out of it

I like the vest fighter even better after the Fisk revision. Looks good!

Thanks Jason

so this is where i ended the work today finished out and ready for a guard

with a mirror polish on the clip...

pay no attention to how trashed the shop is :)

Wow Lon, those are looking great. The last one looks like a monster. I'm assuming it's a Bowie? Is that the last of your 5? I agree with Jason, the vest fighter looks more proportional now that the handle is trimmed down. To me it shows much humility that you talked to someone like Jerry and then took his advice to heart. Get that Bowie finished so I can see it!!:)

I'm impressed.
Good luck Lon.

Jerry did you a big favor.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

yes he did and i do appreciate all the advise he has given me over the years. i might be the crazy guy in the woods who makes knives but i do know when to listen to those that have come before me

yeah its the last of the 5 but i plan on doing one more...(more advise from the ones that have come before me) and i always ask for input from every rated smith i see at shows

and THIS is why i have named this thread the path to Journeyman

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
