I'm not gonna lie ... I've always been a fan of knives that snap hard. I can't explain it, I just love the sound of it - it's literally like music to my ears.

In my experience, I've found good and bad examples within patterns - some snap great, others meh, on some 2 blades snap great, the other is lazy - tough to find a stockman for example that all 3 blades snap equally well.

So, I'd like to hear your experiences with patterns that ALWAYS snap great, every time, every one, without exception. I'm a Case guy, and for me, there are only two patterns that bring a smile to my face ... every time (never had a stinker yet, and I've had alot of both):

- Slimline Trapper
- Muskrat

Looking forward to everyone's experiences ...

Buck 110 and 112?
They always have a satisfying ... "thunk" ... when you open them.
At least all of mine do.
(I only have six of the 110's and one 112. Is that too small of a sampling to make an accurate determination?)

......this, I guess, is walk n talk

Bear-trap folders leave me cold, don’t see the point, defeats the object of ease imho. But, we’re all different, no one is right or wrong.

Of all my slippies, there’s around three or four that have a rhythm, a note......... some music to their opening and closing - with it, most definitely, goes a silkiness of movement - a note of good construction

The most notable of all is a Native from Thys Meades

Smith & Sons Mudbug (made by GEC) always has a satisfying snap when opened. Plus the large sodbuster is my favourite traditional pattern.

I’m not a big fan of hard pulls and gator snap. In fact, I don’t think that necessarily equates with quality

Not many people like weak or mushy pulls either...I prefer “crisp” action. A definite quality feel on opening & closing...with crisp end points.

I sold off my GEC 23’s because I think their pull and action was a bit much for me. I agree with Zachary - the Case Bose Collaborations have that “crisp” clean action that I prefer.

I also think Viper has done a great job with their “moditionals” - Crisp & clean

My Case trappers have great "snap." My GEC Boys Knife too. And my Langres French knife. My Laguiole. My Sheffield lambsfoots. Others, too, but those come to mind first.

Snap on the Fontenille Pataud's Laguiole Picnic, very, very satisfying.

Did not think it would be possible to improve on the enjoyment of a chateauneuf du pape, but I'm confident opening it with this knife will.

Do most people consider the backlock knives to have 'snap'?
Interesting question, John. It made realize that I don't close a lockback the same way I close a slip joint. I "walk" the blade closed on a lockback but I let those slip joints slam shut. The reason why I close them differently is going right over my head.
