The perfect E.D.C. knife?

Kershaw RAM, I'd go for one in 14C28N(older models might be 13C26).

It's a flipper, and it's easily as smooth as IKBS. I'd also go as far to say it's ambidextrous, as I can easily disengage the hawks lock with my middle finger on my left hand. With aluminum handles with G10 onlays, it's about as light as a Skyline, but fills your hand better.

Might be a bit too tacticool for sheeple though.

Spyderco Paramilitary, for me. I have the original version, and it's my most-carried and most-used pocket knife.

Not big on my vantage! I love my skyline! Its prob my fav inexpensive knife! And they re shaving sharp out of the box!! And Walmart has them on sale right now for $30!!

Kershaw Leek. Great little knife, can be had for close to the $40. (Excuse the Fenix, But It is a great little edc light!)

I love my Spyderco Militaries for and EDC knife. It has a great blade length and numerous option in terms of how you can grip it. Lightweight and hugely versatile. A bit arguer than most peoples comfort zone allows.

As far as an incredible utility knife I'm really digging my Spyderco Moran fixed in VG-10. I've got several Busse/Swamp Rat knives and various other fixed knives and I always come back to this one. Not so expensive I'd weep if I lost it, VG-10 is great for everyday use, hold an edge well and in reasonably easy to sharpen. I think the Spyderco outdoorsman would be a great knife although I love the stainless quality of VG-10.

At a recent luau we were butchering a pig, my Swamp Rat Swampwarden was a bit small and rusted and My SAR5 was a bit big and also rusted a bit. My Spydie Moran would have been perfect, even when cutting off the feet of the pig. I've found that I don't have much use for choppers and would way rather have an axe.

420HC with good HT is not junk :grumpy: Not a superexosteel but a very descent steel !

Where can you get one for under $40? More like $100-$120. :)
Kershaw Salvo is my vote. $25.47 shipped if google skills are stong.

i would also go with a delica or endura for there ambidexterous lock back and great vg10 steel as well as the ffg blades. easily worth another 15 to 20 bucks. light weight for edc, easy one hand operation. tip up down left or right carry.

First, there is no perfect EDC.

Second, the perfect EDC will cost more than $40.

Some will need stainless, others won't. The best steel depends. Some will be limited by the law to a 3-inch blade or less, others won't. Blade length depends. Some will need a stout blade, others a fine cutter. Blade design depends.

And you'll have to pay for quality. $40 may buy a nice EDC, especially if it's used, but it won't cover the costs of anyone making the perfect EDC.

Sometimes you actually do get what you pay for....if you want better than average materials, and better than average blade-steel, then you're going to have to pay a little more than average.

Check out the Buck Vantage series of knives.
For less than $60.00 dollars you can get the small Buck Vantage Pro.
It has a blade less than 4", S30V blade-steel, and G-10 scales.
And it's made in the U.S.A..

I have the large Buck Vantage Pro and I'm very happy with it so far...

Sweet knife.

The Benchmade 707 sequel is my favorite edc. Yeah its a little out of your price point but I feel it's worth it. 154cm steel, aluminum handles with g10 inserts, axis lock. Thick blade for the size but thins out to a really nice point. Its a small but tough knife that does not look "scary", could even be used as a gentlemens knife imho.

My rotation is a Spyderco Military, Hinderer XM-18 and a lg Sebenza (in no particular order).

Around the house I pocket carry an Izula in a kydex sheath.

Lg Sebenza?? He said $40 - not $400! I endorse the Buck 110 as a great choice. Buck's heat treatment of 420HC is unreal - great 'user' steel - lasts well and re-edges easily, especially with a Spydie 'Sharpmaker'. You'll have enogh left, if you shop a WallyWorld for the 110, of your $40 for a fairly decent meal, too. Okay, maybe a 'Happy Meal' - or two. Everyone needs a Buck 110!

Yup - my bad. I read the title caption and skimmed too fast to catch it. How about a Kershaw Leek, my wife and I both like ours a lot!
