In my small collection (and I only buy knives that serve a purpose or more likely they serve a particular time to carry) I can make a case for just about all of them being the only knife I own. My collection consists of:

1) Large Sebenza with Box Elder Burl inlay
2) Small Sebenza with Carbon Fiber scale: Knife Art Exclusive
3) Spyderco Manix 2 Blurple with S110V
4) ZT0562CF CTS-204P
5) ZT0566CF with M390
6) Large Ritter Griptilian in M390 with custom Deathofallthings scales.
7) Lionsteel SR2-A, Black with Black blade
8) Spyderco Dragonfly with G10 scales

I'm sure that a lot of people will agree that a large Sebenza could be my only knife. Tough, great steel, incredible workmanship, and good looking. The small Sebenza could also make a great case, same characteristics as it's larger brother, but fits well in the hand and disappears in the pocket. ( I own a second small Sebenza identical to the first. Large one was made on my parents anniversary, and the small ones were made on my parents birthdays) Every time I carry them, I wonder why I have other knives.

The Manix 2 S110V fits my hand PERFECTLY! It's smooth as silk, opens and closes effortlessly and the blade is tough as nails. Every time I carry it, I wonder why I have other knives.

Both ZT's have that LOOK to me. The look that says they are a knife and not just something to cut something with. (Make sense?) They are rugged, good looking, deep carry clips, awesome steel, no real week points. Both fit well in my pocket with the 0566 disappearing in there. Every time I carry them, I wonder why I have other knives.

Large Grip is an all around great knife. Opens and closes wonderfully, great steel, and looks badass with G10 scales inlayed with Carbon Fiber. Every time I carry it, I wonder why I have other knives.

Latest acquisition is the Lionsteel SR2-A. I consider this blade to be knife porn! It's damn sexy looking, fits well in the hand and can be pulled out in the middle of a crowd without freaking everybody out that "HE HAS A KNIFE!" And I'm starting to get that same feeling that every time I carry it, I wonder why I have other knives.

Is this a common theme among some of you or am I just not right in the head? I'm sure it becomes more and more difficult to find the perfect knife the more knives you own, there are so many great ones out there.

The Dragonfly is a knife I use basically for nicer dress pants, just to small to be the only knife I own.

Yes, definitely a common theme. I will always try and talk myself into "why I need THIS knife". I finally bought, sold, and traded so many I got to the point where I want to keep and enjoy the best EDC knives.

My latest thing is buying "the perfect assortment" of knives so I will never need to buy another. I am SO close to that and I am really hoping that I will be able to be satisfied with that perfect assortment. I think I can, I think I can! I do have a hell of an awesome assortment, and in 3 months will have it complete, when my last two customs get finished. We will see!

I do sometimes wonder why I need all these knives, but again I talk myself into justifying why I have each one. I can talk myself into anything when I like the outcome, just got to try and not think about the money missing from my account.

Very nice collection. You are correct in that just about any one of those could be your only knife. I have a fair number of nice folders, but have only carried one since Dec of '14. Because it just fits my hand and I'm completely comfortable with it, I've never felt compelled to carry one of the others. But there are lots of folks who have a wide variety of EDC's and love to vary the rotation throughout the week.
I rarely carry a small knife, but have several SAKs should I feel the need. Usually, I employ the nail-file or the scissors more than the sharp blade.
Different strokes...

I'm with ATJ999 here, just caught the decease, but right from the beginning (less than a year ago), I've been trying to figure out the perfect assortment. It's still in the making, and mostly just in my head, but I want it to represent different locking types, actions, different handle materials, historically important designs and so on. No local suppliers where I live, so will have to buy and try quite a bit before I can lean back. I know it's never going to be complete, but once I have my base built up, I can slow down and just look for incremental improvements.
OT: I guess the small Sebenza would be the hardest item to depart with, but each knife in my collection represents the perfect iteration of the properties I wanted it to represent.
