When it comes to neck knives some people love them and some hate them. I'm a big fan of them especially in summer when I don't always have shorts/pants with belt loops preventing me from wearing a belt knife.
I also like to carry a necker as a back up to my main blade.
My problem has always been finding the perfect neck knife, too large and it becomes annoying to have hanging from your neck, too small it becomes a waste of time having it with you, might as well have a folder.
What I tended to find was that to have a neck knife light enough you had to forgo the scales, my Swampwarden and the ESEE Izula are good examples, however with no scales and maybe just a Paracord wrap they are not the most comfortable for prolonged use.
Just when I thought all was lost a little Mora caught my eye in a local store, maybe that would work I thought !
Well I've tried it out for a few days now and this thing rocks, super light, comfortable handle, carves like a laser............I really can't think of anything negative to say about this knife.
The humble Mora 511....
Trusty high carbon steel:
What a beauty eh !
I epoxied some plastic tube into the sheath so that it could hold a ferro-rod.
It was raining heavily again today but it took no time at all to shave up some fatwood with the Mora.
Thin enough to ignite easily with the Ferro-rod.
I also cut up a bunch of veggies this morning for dinner and the little knife once again performed awesomely, I guess you can tell I'm pretty impresssed with this little guy eh !
Anyway here are a few more pics from today and yesterday.
It's so wet right now it's unreal, this was run off water in the forest today.
And this was on the trail yesterday.
There were still some Hawthorn berries to be found.
Not that I needed to eat those, I'd picked up a breakfast sandwich on my way, this made me quite popular with the dogs !
