The Perfect Necker - Found It !

I like my Mora but for neck carry I like...

The Becker is great and about as large as I want on my neck. The CKC is a fine neck knife. I found I like the TOP's more then I thought I would. I did have to thin the edge a bit.

From info I can find the Becker without scales is more or less the same weight as the Mora.

You know Pit, I believe that it was you that started me to thinking about smaller\thinner blades. But of course I knew it all and had to keep fumbling around until I understood. Always something for me to learn, which is ok, as it is fun.
 :)

I think the perfect necker is the one you actually have if needed. That said the 511 does make for a nice necker and will toss some sparks.

The 546 also isn't bad and 12c27 is a very good Stainless INHO.

My favorite carbon Mora necker is the #1/0. A Mora #2 on top with smaller #1/0. The #1/0 is also smaller than the number 1. It has a 3.5 inch blade rather than the 3 of the #2/0. I think Mora only makes the #2/0 these days (no more #1/0) but that isn't a bad necker either.

Great pics, especially the dogs sporting their rain-gear. For the past couple of winters my favorite combo has been a Mora and a chopper.

The Mora scout knife 3 1/2" in SS and a leather sheath. Same size as the #1/0
I cut off one side of the guard, and it is very comfortable with the half guard and controls the small handle so it will not slide forward and the handle end sits in the palm of my hand

Also the Childrens Carving knife 3" in Carbon in a leather sheath with a half guard. Same size as the #2/0

I would highly recommend these if you want a simple Mora with a quality leather sheath
And the half guard

I use both these as neckers and couple these with a SAK Huntsman for hiking

My problem is hating having anything around my neck. I've tried, and just can't stand it. If I could stand it, it would be my Fallkniven WM1. Really love that knife, although the Mora would work in a pinch as well.

How tough are the wooden handled originals ? I was always leery about them because I felt that I could probably put too much downward force on it and bend\snap the tang. Are they moderate force knives or can you be free to use it like a work horse ?

Seems like it's a love it or hate it kind of thing. I cut down a Buck 110 sheath so I could carry it around my neck with a piece of para cord. I even like carrying that heavy thing this way. I have been carrying wood and brass lockbacks regularly on woods walks lately for the first time in years.

[...]I like carrying my knife baldric style with a knot you use to tighten the cord with. I carry it baldric until I'm at camp and then slide the cord off my shoulder, cinch it up, and then wear it on my belt. Keeps it from flopping around while tending a fire.

Can you show a pic or two of this? Sounds like a nice system.

Nice post Pit.
I like a Mora or puukko for neck carry, been doin it for a few years now. Stick tangs of any sort let you carry a nice sized blade around your neck for a couple ounces of weight. Everybody should try it when they get over the feeling they always have to have a full tang survival knife on them. It'll do everything you need it to do, and develop a nice patina while the heavier cousins hang out in the car or camp.

This thread got me to rooting around in my trunk. I found the bottom two in there and the top was in a box. I had five at one time.....I wonder were the other two went to ? They are so cheap that I didn't treat them with much respect. I think that I appreciate them a bit more now.
