My spirit smolders and churns, excited about tomorrow, ready to be fanned back into a roaring inferno of creation and execution of the craft I have devoted a large part of my life to. I hope to be able to clear my mind and give over to the process of creation in my shop, something I find more intoxicating then any drug. It's special, i've been away so long, working in my own private universe among others', but now I step back into my universe where I control the horizontal, the vertical, the fire, the hammers, the tools and techniques. The beauty and anticipation of it moves me close to tears. Don't ever take it for granted.

Good to see you are digging on it. Nice creative writing. You are beginning to sound a little like Don Fogg.

Don's the man, his writing to give a voice to that inspired feeling I always find hard to express.

I watched the last samurai today, Hatsumoto's quote that you could spend your life trying to find the perfect cherry blossom and it would not be a wasted life hit home, I think I might be beginning to understand the mentality of complete devotion and focus.

Freakin' me out, dude, I didn't know you were a poet!
Time to get busy, Sam. The day job was holding you back. You've been waiting for this opportunity, haven't you?

So in otherwords, you are getting ready to make my farking hammer.

Brother, I also watched The Last Samurai last night!.... too cool. If we had watch it together I would have pulled the ol' bottomless popcorn surprise on ya, bud... extra butter!

Try focussing on that visual!

Will, pleeeeease don't make this another thread about me! LOL

I could try and add on some of my own poetry though... ;)

... Hang in there Sam... It's not as bad as you think.

... seriously though,... Doing it for a living can take some of the glamour and fun out of it. It's a lot of hard work. The trick is to try and make money at it and still stay as enthusiastic, keep it fresh.

If you can do that,… it’ll be the ride of a lifetime.

Most people (not us) do not understand how the creative process can become all encompassing for artists.

Ideas drive us like some otherworldly master that requires our sweat, blood and tears to become. Perhaps that's why so many of us are reluctant to ship the blade to a customer, we're holding on to our dream a little longer.

Moonbeams and stardust
dance across my anvil
like fireflies and fairies
dressed in radiant ballerina costumes

Their eyes twinkle
and flash
the flames of the forge

... Like a Disney cartoon

I look into the fiery chasm and see my face staring back
It is like a mirror to my soul
The steel is my vessel, the hammer, my pulse
Heated by the burning desire to make that which haunts me, the iron glows
I feel its spirit flow into my hand, the warmth is comforting
It grows with the anticipation of release
I am at one with the pulse, the vessel, the fire
The smell of creation fills my nostrils and virility fills my loins
It burns
It burns
Oh snap, it really burns... my crotch is on fire!
Creation smells like cookies

Sam you're like Fam
and probably likes green eggs and ham,
I know you would eat them in a foxes box
all while wearing one green sock
you'll do well at your new job
your one bad ass forging SOB

I’ve seen it where just the extra alcohol expense and cost of meds puts a lot of guys out of business...

… You have to be careful with that and try to keep your overhead down as much as possible.
