Very nice knife. You can't go wrong with chris reeve. That would make a good all rounder.

I think it is a great knife. I've always wanted one. I had cash in hand at one time to buy one, but I just couldn't pull the trigger. Maybe someday.

I did a litte side by side test when I was back in GA (couple of years ago) with the Project 1, RD7 and Fehrman First Strike. The Project 1 did very well. I was initially concerned about chopping and thought the handle would tear up my hand but it didn't. It wasn't as uncomfortable as I though it would be either and was pretty easy to control. My initial dislike was the serrations, but they are simple and although they interfer with choking up for fine work, they are easy enough to work around.

The spear-point is very good at digging into dead logs and the blade excels at battening. The A2 construction is very robust and you will not be under-knifed with this one. Excellent blade.

I never did much chopping but I dearly loved mine. It was released only for a Gossman custom.
I always thought a handle dip in liquid vinyl would improve comfort but I never got around to trying it. I treated it pretty rough and never had it give up. Handle held Aqua Pur tabs, Keflex, Ibu 800, tinder and peice of ferricum, needle and dental floss.

I have owned both the 1 & 2, and a few smaller ones..while they look very cool...I just didn't like them all that much..JMHO. I would get one without the serations if I was you.

Thanks for yours advices !
Do you know some defaults with this knife (except the serrations) ?

Handle gets very hot/cold with the weather- reason I was thinking about dipping it in liquid vinyl. I did not like the serrations but they were not that much a problem. For use as a drawknife- the swedge could have been eliminated for better comfort.

Different people use/hold tools differently, these were just some things I ran into. Would I be comfortable relying on one?? YES.

I would have no problem carrying one if I had to...I would count myself lucky if someone "made" me carry one....I have just played with alot of big "survival" type knives...and If I am going BIG..I choose a solid fixed blade with the pouch on the sheath..I felt like they were great knives, and I didn't abuse any that I owned, so I have no idea of thier durability...but I thought the blade had a "twang" to it, it sounded brittle, like I could shatter it or something. I know this is totally unfounded, and crazy...but thats the way they felt to me..and I couldn't get comfortable with them. If I am going to go with a big tough knife...give me a razor sharp crowbar...if its already ugly, it should have some attitude (like my Scrapper6)
On the plus side, the handle does hold stuff, and I have heard the edge retention is good. The sheaths from CR are really well made, and the finish and grinds on the knife are perfect, the shorter CR knives are some really cool knives for the woods IMO...Gene

I liked the P1 but just didn't care for the handle shape. Round just isn't fer me. The serrations weren't a problem for me but I really didn't need them. I'd suggest a non serrated version. I saw a P2 with A-grip foam rubber wrapped on the handle and that made it a lot better for my paw but I haven't bother to buy another. I prefer the pouch on the sheath method for carrying extra gear. You get more gear and better ergonomics :)

More I read the posts, more I hesitate between the Sable and the Project I now :o

If you need a very thorough test done on the Project I, I would suggest you read this one. I believe you will find it very helpful.

I have owned several of the Reeve 1 piece line including the P1. Awesome knives for sure. I like A2 a lot, they are tough and easy to sharpen. I would choose one of the smaller ones as stated though, the Shadow 4 being my favorite.

I feel this is possibly the ultimate survival knife. If I could have only one in total wilderness scenario, I wouldn't hesitate to grab my Project 1.

Reason being is it is strong enough to handle any cutting or chopping task, it is wicked sharp out the box and will hold an edge with much work.

The spearpoint is a tremendously strong blade profile. Finally the sheath is among the finest you will find at this price point.

Oh, and there's a hollow handle for stashing matches, etc that doesn't compromise the knife's strength. Perfect!

I don't believe the serrations detract from the knife. There is plenty of plain edge to work with, believe me. But they are there if you need them.

For the price, you really cannot do better, and I have seen ones going on forums for great prices.

I have the Sable and I can't decide which I like better - Nick's forum survival knife or the Chris Reeve. So I usually have both.

The spear point on the Project might be stronger than the Sable, but the size of the Sable makes it very handy for more "daily" use.
