The Radio, Electrician, and Lineman's Knife

Every time I am going over this thread I know I have to get me one of these. Not having one yet but hopefully soon.
Some great knives here, thanks for sharing.

I saw this thread and wanted to add my input since not one of the posts mentions my favorite among the Electricians knives offered in the industry in my life time.

It's funny that as a electrician I do not own one of these knives. They seem more appropriate for a building engineer or some other form as maintenance. I can see their usefulness in a pinch but for the most part I use strippers for stripping, files for terminal cleaning, and utility blades for in-general cutting and box opening. Though now that I have looked at them I want one.

An electrician who doesn't carry an electrician's knife?
Whatever are they teaching this generation?

Some 40 years ago every electrician carried one, at least all of us did at the company I worked for. Never used the screwdriver blade, but a hawkbill was great for removing the external wrapping on the old style romex we used to run into doing remodels. The old 1940's romex was wrapped with tarred cloth or paper and strings. Wire strippers wouldn't work with it. You had to have a knife to cut through that stuff.

Here's my old knife. I still keep it in my pouch with my Kleins.

View attachment 772137 1930's ??? Cattaraugus 21087. This is one of those knives that just really put a smile on my face when I got it. Would love more info if anybody has any to share. I still have a lot to learn about the older knives and there origins.
Wow...what a beauty ! Thanks for the look and I'm looking forward to see and hearing more about it :D:thumbsup:

Just discovered this thread. I sure wish I paid more attention to, and gave more care to, the vast number of Electrician's Knives that I bought and subsequently ruined, lost, or loaned out - never to get back. Mostly in the first 20 or so years of my ~50 years of doing electrical work. There are places - above hung ceilings, atop beams, down in holes and ditches, etc., where I'm sure I've left one of my knives.:oops::D

I'd always just pick up another at the next supply house counter. Makes me wish I was a bit more into knives back then. :(

oh the follies of our youth! Thanks for the recollection :)

This Utica was a gift from my father-in-law. It was his dad's and, whew-boy, I think it may have seen some use. We couldn't figure out just how old it was but I read somewhere that the Army used to issue these.(?) It is still a great knife to me and its lineage makes it one of my favorites. I just wish I could find another one like it. I understand that Utica has switched to delrin handles.
