So here are some pics of the mods so far. Its stripped, patina-ed, and the snake skin micarta is sanded and stained. Next up is grinding the thumb ramp, adding jibbing, grinding the pommel for more of a skull crusher point, removing the patina since im gonna blue it now, and see about doing something with the swedge possible making it serrated? Dunno yet, anyway enjoy and of course comment are welcome and more pics will be added as I work on it more tonight.

Looking very cool thus far brother. Really nice work.

Very nice job so far man. Looking forward to the completed "rattler"

Great job thus far. Love the grips on that. Can't wait to see the final product!

Thanks for the comments guys. Any input about the swedge? I saw devilpig grind his into a clip point and it got me thinking about either sharpening as is or taking the big brother idea and seeing if I can make it serrated. But ice never seen a double bevel serration will that even work?

1. tape the cutting edge :)
2. place knife in vice
3. (roughly)profile sharpen the edge of clip/swenge
4. take a small chainsaw file and hold at 20-25 degrees (or to flavor) and make your serrations..
5. resharpen the clip/swenge on a stone
6. remove masking tape

ok so i worked on it some more tonight and this is what ive come up with:

stripped the patina off with rubbing compound number 7 and scotch brite and miller lite

getting ready to grind off the thumb ramp

Buh bye thumb ramp

Next is reshaping the pommel, this pic is of the cutting of one side

The other side is off and this is the result

I then ground and sanded the pommel to make it smooth just no pic

then i cut out black rubber liners for a little bit of give in the handles

and the result so far is this (with a monkey fist lanyard for the rattlesnake look) , i still want to do some jimping and file work plus liquid blue it for a nice even patina but it aint bad so far..

Lookin' good brother. I like the looks without the thumb ramp, but am I the only one that likes the thumb ramp on the 9?

i didnt dislike it, i just feel the ramp is for control on fine work and since i carry the 2 and an 11 anytime im carrying the 9, i felt it was a necessity thats all. plus i want to experiment with new jimping patterns so it needed to go

I like the thumbramp as well... and even worse I even like the original coating :D
I will strip mine the old school way: by chopping and battoning

been there, done that :D i have a few with the worn coating look. But i found its a lot of fun to mod and just run with it. ill get another 9 eventually and leave it stock, but its nice to say i accomplished something i set out to do.

Fact is your mods are number 1. I love the work you did with your scales !
I just don't have the skill to do such mods... yet

im going to try and do the same with the liquid blue. stole the idea from that junglas mod thread and im not ashamed to admit it. I hope it turns out just as good.
