The Ratweiler CG Is Now "LIVE" On The Swamp Rat Website!!!!

Muddy & Tan Canvas 1/4" and Sage & Black Canvas 3/16"

And yeah, the new scales are great

Trying to scrape up the cash for a Tanker Grey with Green/Black g10... wish I didn't have to buy that new radiator for the car :-\

I posted in another section that I seem to have entered a hiatus in knife buying. I thought it was just going to affect my pursuit of folding knives, as I had every intent of taking advantage of the Ratweiler release. At about 1720, EST, I hit up the Swamp - and found the site to be down. I went to bed for a while (up for 28 hrs, by then), then at about 2300 I tried again. Made my selections, then stopped dead - no compulsion to complete the transaction. Figuring I must still be tired, I went back to sleep. At 0230, I felt as if common sense had returned - after all, this is the Ratweiler, and I know I'll regret it if I don't grab a couple. Made my selections again, then sat there looking at the screen. WTF? Really? I'm going to do this now?
I know I'll struggle with this until they're gone - so buy'em up quick, guys, and put me out of my misery.

On the bright side - at least I don't feel any compulsion to get rid of the knives I already have

Muddy & Tan Canvas 1/4" and Sage & Black Canvas 3/16"
That's exactly what I put in my cart.

With a total of 3 TG's, 2 in Infi and 1 BG...and a Trash 1 I cannot justify to myself purchasing this one.

It seems many are excited about this one, am I missing something? I cannot imagine it out performing the Trash or a TG for usage.

Educate me before they sell out Hogs, Rats, and Dogs.

Tan micarta over black blade in 1/4in thick for my order :)
Bill, I have a feeling you're gonna love it.
The weight and balance of the 1/4 inch thick slab of SR-101 feels amazing in the hand. After months of lurking the exchange, ebay, etc, I was lucky enough to get in on a private deal and snag an early edition of this blade a few months ago thanks to some good members on this forum, and when it showed up in the mail I was not disappointed. The curves, the cut of the steel, not too big but still massive and strong; the profile of the legendary Ratweiler is what drew me to the Swamp Rat brand; it perfectly captures the style of the Classic Rats...

A long time ago I had an original and let it slip away in a moment of weakness. The full size Ratweiler is just one of those knives I have missed a lot. Very happy to see them offered once again!

I initially thought 3/16" would be good.... after much soul searching I went with 1/4"... just because!

Now I have to decide if I can afford to hang onto my Rat Daddy and pay for this and a CG FBM ha ha!

Well I broke down (good pun) and ordered a black with orange/black handle, 1/4" thick. I have two chopweilers that I never use. Now I will have even more knives not to use. Actually I have probably 125+ knives I never use. When I first found Busse I passed on a Ratweiler and a RatMastiff at the first Blade West. I could not pass again.

I too went with tan canvas micarta on 1/4" black blade. Really looking forward to this blade.

So I don't 'need' a Ratweiler, because I already have the SYKCO 711 and TGLB plus a Becker BK-7. But I really, really 'want' one.

How does it stack up against any or all of the other three I already have? For instance the balance difference between the 711 and BK-7 is significant. I've read on a couple of threads here and over on the Swamp/Yard forums that many prefer the 711 as a general camp blade and while I'm a big fan of the "two is one, one is none" mentality, I can't imagine the 711 is going to let me down any time soon.

Thoughts?

Meh. "Want" is all the justification you need. If you don't snag one you'll most likely regret it.

I have lots of knives in that size. Just more to choose from.

I agree with Antdog. If you want it, better get it while you still can.
Nothing wrong with the Becker, if you like plastic nylon type handles. Personally, I can't stand the look of them, and the first thing I did with my Becker was put some proper micarta on it. The BK-7 is a super nice blade, but it ain't 1/4" steel and it's not a BKW Ratweiler.

T.,
Ratweiler is a different knife from 711. More of a do it all type camp knife, with close to neutral balance (at finger guard on the old ones), where 711 is blade heavy.
Overall mass of Ratweiler is bigger than 711 so it still is a good chopper, but will be easier to use for finer tasks as it will not 'wrench' your hand like 711.
The new Ratweiler's handles are really comfy, and definitely bigger than 711's, and if I remember correctly you have bigger hands.

@FloridaBlade - yeah I have micarta on all my Beckers for exactly the reasons you state

@elof_alv - C, you remember right and thanks for your input. You covered the issues that I was looking for.

Very close to pulling the trigger, and just hoping that it actually lands a reasonable timeframe away from the other two Bussekin blades I already have on order that I can't afford :)

In for 3 (2 skinny's and 1 'normal' since I already got 2 gen2 ones and a recent LE variant). Oh, and a Rucki, just for good measure!
