The REAL Finnish Puukko....

Wow, absolutely gorgeous knives. I'm looking for a custom tommi puukko... I can't seem to find much of them.... Anywhere. A good analog would be the Spyderco puukko, but obviously more traditional. I'm looking to spend about 200 or so, so any suggestions on a good source would be great!! Not looking to make a deal here as this isn't the thread for that, just sources or knife makers.

I've personally found comunications with Marko Lindela to be quite erratic and frustrating. Two smiths I can highly recomend to contact are Martti Malinen

and Jari Liukko

Both in your pricerange, though neither of them crafts real Tommis, I'd drop them a mail anyway. If you're not adamantine about the ridged pommel, you'll be plenty satisfied. Here are two of mines side by side for comparison. Top: Malinen, bottom: Liukko.

Malinen has mastered the forging of 52100 and takes it to 62 HRC, on a 20-21° inclusive edge. Liukko uses both K510 and 80CrV2, tempering them both at 59 HRC, generally on a 18-19° inclusive edge, but obviously he can forge the bevels slightly steeper as well.

Here is a very cool “user” Puukko from Juha Perttula out of Tampere, Finland.4ABE2CCD-85AB-4C09-996A-78935969A357.jpeg Cury Birch handle9901DD2B-61AE-4C5B-9825-8F3868C6C9E6.jpeg Juha’s name in Germanic Runes goes perfect with the archaic look of the hand forged 3 3/4” blade which consists of 3 laminated layers of low carbon steel on the sides and O1 in the center 98244546-9AF1-494F-ADBB-4E9567AF41CC.jpeg
