Pointing the Wayback Machine to March of 2000. Here's one of my first posts at BFC:

My thanks to Sal Glesser and the design team at Spyderco. I received my first Spyderco (plain-edge Standard) in the mail a couple of days ago. Fantastic knife! I'd already about decided to buy a 440V Military (been posting questions about it for the last week), and this first knife sealed the deal. Poor house, here I come!

Man, poor house was prophetic. I didn't freakin' know the half of it :p Anyway, Spyderco was the reason I got into Bladefourums, and it's been a long, good ride since. I got out my Standard and carried it today. It still encapsulates everything I like about a Spyderco. Great G10, good steel, low pocket carry, nice size. Thought I'd take and share some pics of an oldie, but a goodie.

Thats a great looking knife Jason. I don't think I've seen one of those before. I like the liner on only one side.

Really good pics, thanks:thumbup:

And BTW, did you get that 440V Millie?

Good to see you rotating back to your "roots". The Standard is an awesome knife.

Plus 1 about the pics and curious about the 440V millie too.

I have owned a couple of Spyderco Military models, including that 440V one. Alas, I have it no more.
I do have an old picture though. The other day, I found this pic on some server space I'd forgotten about.

Nice story and that is one good looking Standard! My first spydie was a Native I bought in 2004, I gave it to my cousin when he was deployed to South Korea

Do you still have the CF Ladybug and CF Dragonfly?

Do you still have the CF Ladybug and CF Dragonfly?

Unfortunately, no. So many have come and gone--to make more room, to fund other purchases. The CF's started to command a premium and I let 'em go on to other homes.
I used to like that little Dragonfly for carry on airplanes. Nice unthreatening size. Low pocket carry. Of course, that all ended with 9/11.
The one I really wish I had back is that full-sized Calypso. Man, that was a lot of VG-10 blade in a sleek, compact package. Also a very low ride.
