The remarkable variation in knife pricing

"Don't blame me...I don't even collect knives. Well, ordinarily."

It truly is a shake-one's-head moment, when someone ponies up the $$$ for a Stupinza, and then suffers great angst either because it's very difficult to open (Is it galling!!?!! Will CBD oil help!!?!!) or because the blade isn't centered with respect to the handle (Can I send it in for a brand new tuneup!!?!!)

How many “Stupenzas” have you had persistent issues with?

Asking for everyone who likes honesty and truth…

I’m not sure how this pertains to the initial post or subsequent replies.

Was it exacerbated by the multitude of online purchasing sources?
If by exacerbated you mean prices dropped, then yes. Before the internet you had a few sources. Sporting Goods stores, mail order, flea markets, surplus stores, etc. - all of which stuck it in and broke it off during the gouging , leaving your wallet much lighter.

It is always worth searching as many sites and product search engines as possible, in an attempt to find a bargain. At some point, the knife is unavailable, out of production, and if you really, really, want one, you are going to pay scalper's prices. Currently I looked for an Ontario made, Bill Bagwell's Hell's Belle Bowie. The knife has been out of production and what is out there, god awful expensive. Pass.

But, sometimes you can time the market. And, on a popular auction site, pricing bots will get into competition with each other, and prices for decent knives, such as Case, Ontario, Kabar, Cold Steel, will be unusually low. Those situtions don't last long, so if you see something you want, get it now, before someone in the home office realizes that they are not making profit based on the pricing.

You bet! I am just amazed at the HUGE disparity in pricing!

You're absolutely right about the timing. I've seen knives on my "list" deeply discounted online. I figured "I'll look into it tonight" and by them it was too late.
