another cool looking piece Chris.. nice work man.. i love Milla Jovovich, i mean Resident Evil..:)

Thanks for the comments. Yeah she is kinda hot isn't she :D

Just finished up a much milder prototype of that chopper and all I can think about right now is:

1. Heat treat

2. Get to choppin stuff!

Sweet design, Archer. I really like the lines of that one.

One suggestion - increase the angle between the cutting edge and the tang just a bit. Maybe 15 degrees total or so? Really increases the torque on the strike when chopping (think Khukri).

Just my .00002 cents, so feel free to disregard,

Taylor

P.S. - What's steel did you use for the blade?

Sorry I forgot to put the shop details in there:

5160 Spring Steel was cut out and Normalized @ 1500 degrees until nonmagnetic, three times, to remove stresses and align crystals. Heat Hardened until blade became nonmagnetic, then quenched in oil. Tempered the blade to a straw hardness @ 550 degrees for 1 hour, letting it air cool and repeating once more.

Yeah, I guess I could have put more of an angle or a higher grind, but the fellow I made it for sent me a picture of what he wanted with measurements, and I followed it.

Thanks again pal.

p.s. Show us yours

Thank you so much. I really enjoyed making this one.

Thank you. Yes it is sharpened. It gets sharper the closer it gets to the point. I couldn't think of how to sharpen it and yet keep that taper on the false edge.

its me dream come true its very close to the model of resident evil 5, i also think i send to made one exactly equal but with damascus like kanetsune knives.

excelente job is beautyful and very useful

Thank you very much.

We added it to the website last night. It's not currently available in damascus due to the cost of the steel, but I can give you a quote on it if you prefer that steel.

Thanks,

I wants dis... I causes even a literate fellow such as myself to utilize all manner of bastardizations of the english language. How is the weight balances with the handle, Archer? Is the handle curled enough at the bottom to facilitate an easy wrist roll? (Think Count Dooku) I studied FMA briefly and
I suspect that this would be excellent for bushwhacking.... Or swashbuckling, or ricochet cutting. Am I right?

The weight balance is about 2 1/2 to 3" in front of the handle, and to be honest, it is one of my favorite choppers. Thanks,

That is a quality piece I have to ask when you finished it , sat back and admired it did it enter your mind at all about the giant axe the huge gimp man has , that and this together you'd never worry about the zombie apocalypse again .
Love it ;) .

Thank buddy. That would be a good combo for killin zombies:)
