....is paved with tools!! :D
So I am finally able get a disc grinder put together, and I thought I would share a few pics as I go.
My dad has been scouring fleabay for motors, and we ended up getting a steal on the brand new Baldor for the disc.
I also just decided I really NEED a horizontal grinder and with a little creative engineering I should be able to build it on the cheap to.
All 3 of the grinders will be run through one kbac27-D VFD, by using 2, 2 way switches.
All I am waiting for now is the second motor to come in the mail.
I will post more pics as I go along.

Fun stuff Ben! I really enjoy putting together different grinders........ALMOST as much as I enjoy using them! :D

Looking forward to more pics.

Thanks Jonny, I have been super busy working on orders, so I hope to get some fab time in this week.
I think both of these machines will really change how I do stuff for the better!

That's pretty awesome Ben. Looking forward to your horizontal build. There's so many options on doing a horizontal that it seems every custom build adds a unique feature.

And WOW on the stack of plates for your Nielsen Disc System!!

Yeah Brian, I might have accidentally given the measurements to the laser operator at my work.....14 plates later....  :D

Nope, .125" cold rolled steel!!

That's going to be so cool - to just swap plates and keep going. With 14, you can even have 2 or three with the same grit and just change them all at once.

Ben, this is going to be impressive! I've also been thinking about setting up a horizontal grinder. I'm currently using a KBAC 27-D VFD. Do you have a diagram or know where I could find one for wiring the VFD for a second motor?
Thanks,
Shannon

Thanks for sharing with us.
Always fun to see shop/tool upgrades. I'll have to get that Nielsen disk system someday. Let us know how you like it.

Ben, that magnetic disc system is slick!

I just set up my first disc sander this weekend. I set mine up vertical for now, but I did tie it into my KBAC 27D. I used switch 8001K41 from McMaster-Carr. It was fairly simple.

I was able to test it out yesterday and I'm not sure why I waited so long to get it set up! It does make things easier for sure. Next is the reverse switch :)

I made some progress on both grinders this weekend. I got the frames and stand basically done.
I just need to finish up the work rests on the horizontal, and then wire everything up.
Here are a couple more pics.
