Does anyone own a Roadie or intend on buying one? What do you think of it?

For $50.. just am not seeing the value and this type of knife doesn't offer much appeal - no 'badge' value. Remember hearing that the Roadie was developed to allow people to carry a knife on an airplane.. does the TSA allow this?

Would be shocked if this knife is still being made in a couple years - but also thought the PT Cruiser was a bad idea.. so what do I know :)

TSA does not allow any blades. They were going to allow small blades but the industry pushed back hard against the proposal. As for this model, suggestion if to get a dragonfly if you don't have one - wonderful little blade that is very light and I can slip into dress pants for work. (better bang for your buck)

Hi Yexactly,

The Roadie fiils the need for a certain type of knife in many parts of the world. It's socially acceptable, politically correct, non-locking (some countries do not allow locking knives), not intimidating, easy to carry and easy to use. Think of it as a portable edge, with an edge protector that is also the handle.

The cost is the result of our cost to build it. It's made in Italy and the Euro is what it is. Hard to tool up and build a knife in Europe that sells for under $50.

I second this, DF2 if you dont already got one.

If you shop around, you can find it around $43. Granted that isn't much less than $50, but if you are looking to add a knife to meet a free shipping threshold...

I have one and truly enjoy it. I am prohibited from carrying a pocket knife at work, so while my main EDC relaxes in the car, the Roadie becomes my little secret. It fits nicely in the watch pocket of my pants.

I also plan on gifting a few to non-knife folks as the Roadie would be a great edge for them to keep in the car for use as they see fit.

Also, when I first saw pictures of it, I thought no way do I want one. Then I had the chance to hold one and was pleasantly surprised.

I like my Roadie quite a bit. I think $50 is a decent price for it. It's a neat little knife, kind of a modern peanut.

Didn't consider this .. so the Roadie makes it possible for people to carry a knife who otherwise wouldn't be able to.. a couple months ago bought a Victorinox Manager for my key chain and to my surprise it came with a flattened tip - probably for the same reason?

and that is also the reason why it is on my "to buy" list. decent little knife in a non threatening shape.

It is in my opinion the perfect office knife, I carry mine every day. It fits the bill of having a traditional (though unique Spyderco take) design, perfect build quality, great blade shape, handy size and good blade steel to name but a few attributes. I keep mine razor sharp and am careful not to round the tip, I find a reason without trying to use it daily. I think it's a winner and would purchase another if I lost this one.

I like slipjoints, and every Spyderco Slipit I've had has been quality, so I've considered getting one. Again though, with the price at $50 I keep deciding not to purchase.

lol, you guys have it really bad... over here it can't be found for less than 70€... i acutally thought about importing it.

I thought the same as the op at first, but then i decided to try one and im glad i did. Its an awsome little secondary knife to throw in your pocket. Great for opening mail and packages. Or if you ever need a knife out in public but dont want to attract attention with a big 4 inch blade, carry the roadie for a backup you wont evan know its there.

My wife is an elementary school teacher. On occasion she has a need for a sharp blade. There's usually an art project involved. Technically no knives are allowed on school campuses so the Roadie is a great solution IMO. Because it is non-locking, two handed opening, tiny, bright toy-like color, and lacks any intimidation factor it is by far the most socially acceptable solution for her. Granted, her use of it at school still requires careful discretion and responsibility of course.

I am thinking of getting myself one now, but that's a separate story as I have a knife collecting disease... ;)

I would buy it, but it is ridiculously expensive here. Whoever imports those likely takes the MSRP in $ and then converts it to €
80€ IMHO is way too much for that knife, as much as I like Spyderco. Thats like double the US price :grumpy:

THIS! like i said, it is cheaper to import a 50$ knife instead of buying it locally. that's crazy.
seriously germany feels like a third world country concerning spyderco and many other us manufacturers.

I just want to add that I love the Roadie. It is my "second" knife to carry in case I can't whip out my Para2 or my Military.

I picked one up recently in a package deal with the intention of flipping it but I found that I really like it even though slipjoints aren't my thing. I will probably still sell or trade it but I ended up liking it a lot more than I expected.
