The sad state of Emerson fit and finish quality. (Rant)

Has anyone bought a brand new Emerson lately? I just got my brand spanking new, dateless bladed Horesman (shame on Emerson btw for stopping this practice), the jimping on the top of the blade is crooked. I'm not one to gripe about the finish details of an Emerson knife, because that's just the way they come, but this is just ridiculous. Considering the amount of money one lays out for an Emerson knife, and this is the first new one I have bought within at least a year of its manufacture in quite awhile. I didn't buy a $20 flea market knife, it just really chaps my ass that Ernie Emerson would allow shotty work like this to leave his house and go into customer hands. Has anybody else noticed the blade jimping not cut at a 90 degree angle to the length axis of the blade lately?

Here's a shot of the blade of my new Horseman. Just makes me sick, the amount of money I laid out for this knife and this is the quality I get. It's just piss poor work.

That is pretty terrible, gotta say. Not sure if a QC issue or if the company took a turn for the worse.

I'd stick with reliable companies/makers, I never really trusted cheap knifemakers unless they have many great reviews.

I wouldn't have even noticed that. Good eye. Send it back if it bothers you.

I think it's time for an overhaul. CPM154 instead of 154cm, and keep those colorations coming.

If you are not happy with it, send it back to the retailer (if possible) or contact EKI to have it fixed--I know, no one likes doing that with a new knife. I just got a new black/ plain edge Super cqc-7 from USAMADEBLADE.COM, and it is perfect in every way. It might be the best Emerson I got to date, and I've had some stellar ones. Whitty (Scott) took pics of it before sending it to me--his customer service is awesome, check him out for Emersons. Sorry you're bummed by the new blade--hope it works out for you.

The jimping on my mini roadhouse is not quite straight, it does not bother me at all (not at all discounting your concerns). I am sure Emerson will take care of you. You just have to call them and dicuss it. IMHO these are production knives so they are mass produced, these things happen. I have seen some really bad things come out of other manufacturers, and they would not help me in anyway. I have had issues with a couple of my eki's and emerson has always gone above and beyond. It sucks to get a knife that may not be something your happy with and have to contact the manufacturer, but with EKI they will help unlike others, they truley stand up for there product...this is one of the reasons i stick with eki...

Sorry dude, hope it gets resolved and you keep enjoying your eki habit....

Emerson WILL take care of you. It IS a production knife. Yes, I KNOW that you paid a lot of $$$ for that knife. I DO know that EKI WILL take care of. Send it in.

Simple fix, send it back. I don't think that one example reflects a downturn for EKI.

Sorry for the inconvenience but if you send it back we will replace the knife for you. A lot of knives go through QC and rarely does one like this get through. We've been working really hard over the past year and I can guarantee that we haven't "taken a turn for the worse." Things are only improving everyday for us. We are a small family owned company but pride ourselves in offering the best customer service in the business. You can fit all of our employees in your living room. We are also proud to be one of the few companies where every single part is made here, in our beautiful country and you, our customer, are supporting fellow Americans. Again, sorry for the bad apple but we'll be happy to get you a replacement.

Also, if you'd like your money back we can do that too. Any shipping charges you incur will be reimbursed back to you. It's hard to tell from your pictures what's wrong so we'll take a look and make sure it didn't affect any other knives.

Great customer service. Good enough for most of us, my 10 year old 13 is nearly perfect and I know they have improved over the recent years.
Id say trade it in for a new one and use it because they are great tools. I have learned to expect function over finish and that is fine by me.
But I hear ya.

EKI has you covered.
fwiw, I received a Sebenza with a boogered tang and sent it back. Things happen.

I know us corpsmen can gripe too but why didn't you just contact them first to see what options were offered to make you happy? I stead of putting them on blast and pretty much calling the company out. I've been nothing but happy with all of mine and when I needed services for my knives I was blown away at the professionalism and courtesy they gave me.

^ I agree. Nothing is perfect in this world, and the company would have been out of business it this was a common occurrence with Emerson knives.

Send it back and enjoy the new one you receive. An inconvenience to be sure, but they will take care of you and in the big scheme of life this is minor. Someone somewhere just found out they were getting something amputated.

You'll live, and probably become enthusiasts like many of us and if not, well, life will go on.
