The sad state of Emerson fit and finish quality. (Rant)

Well if I was an unhappy customer I would first go to the person or company who sold me the knife to complain, and seek a remedy. Trust me I am not an easy going person, I am a person who expects value for dollars spent.

If the person or company who stuck me with a lemon did not make the wrong right than, and only then I would light up the forum with my complaint.

Appears EmersonRep is offered to make the wrong right so I would take up EmersonRep on their offer.

BTW this is not open heart or any surgury for a matter of fact, no one died or was seriously screwed up for life by this imperfect knife that made it throught QC without getting kicked back to production for rework.

TAKE EMERSONREPS offer to make thing right, and be happy you are dealing with a company who stands. behind what they make & sell. Not some fly by nigh operation like you find at swap meets.

Maybe it is just me but I do not take macro pics of my knifes to determine if the jimping is at 90 degrees. I will admit that the bend in the blade looks off but if the jimping if functional would have never hit my radar

I have a few Emersons, but haven't purchased one in a while. Always been pleased with the quality. I liked the dating. EmersonRep care to relate reason for no more dating if in fact it has been discontinued?

I honestly couldn't tell you why the date is now gone from the blades. It was just a decision that Ernie made.

You know, I was a bit caught up in the moment last night and it was not my intent to put EKI on blast, many apologies to EKI btw. I have been an Emerson owner/fan for a long time now and I'm just used to seeing the particular level of quality they produce. Sometimes when I get a little frustrated my mouth (or fingers in this case) tend to act before my brain does. I just wasn't happy about buying an expensive American made product that was sub par quality, which I'm sure many of us can relate to. However, I have taken some time to let my noodle catch up (lol) and I did contact EKI and EmersonRep by email for assistance about the issue with my knife. Also, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who responded, it helped me realize my error and what I needed to do to get the ball rolling to get things fixed.

I have a Mini A-100 with a slanted disk. It was off by 10 degrees. Luckily it was on the opening side so I kept it. I also had a Horseman that came without a pocket clip. I called to get one and they only sent me the screws. Called again and got the pocket clip. The most recent slip was when I sold my 15 year old CQC 7A BT for a 2014 version with a satin/stonewashed blade. The 2014 model came with out part of the lettering on the blade. EKI's has some issues but they were always polite and fast to remedy the problem.

Photography is art, a way of documentating things like a crack, a split, a imperfection, history or life event. A good picture can also make a story or news event have more meaning. A bad photo is just that a bad photo.

I tend to be a very critical individual and hate shoddy workmenship. Emerson knives to me a tools, not to be confused with William Henery Knives that I love to look at but can not se myself buying one because it would never go in my pocket with keys.

Honestly if I was on a mission to find an imperfection in a knife I would give the William Henery a more recent critical look than say an Emerson or other tool knife.

Same with my Mini 15. I didn't feel it was worth sending back. That knife has been in my pocket for 5 months. Hasn't given me any problems in use.

Some might have been bothered enough to send it back. Their money, their call.

Of the ones i have/handled the jimping appears to be fairly aligned, though i haven't broken out my right angle to check yet. Happy to see Emersons gonna take care of you.

Had a good laugh at the "Chaps my ass" comment.

I was going to respond from the start and I'm glad I didn't, everything I was thinking has been said. Emerson Rep's comments summarize my feelings as "you can fit all of our employees in your living room" and the following offer to replace the knife at no cost. The OP should have contacted Emerson first, as we all should with any manufacturing quality issues, and I'm glad that this has come to a happy conclusion, and Boomer will be taken care of.
On the other hand, and this is just me, the gimping or jimping or whatever, has never been very functional in any Emerson I have handled; what I mean is that it is not sharp enough to grab the skin of my thumb to gain more traction, but it has never bothered me, in fact I made it sharper on my Horseman just because I can. Whether it is straight or crooked I don't care, if the blade came dull from the factory, then I would call them.
Regarding the date removal from the stamp on the blade, I wish it didn't happen; but there must be a very good reason behind the removal of it; but whatever it is, means nothing to me as long as the quality remains or improves. My Emersons are the only blades I have that I cannot compare to any other ones in my collection; I always see them as "raw" instruments of death and chastisement to those who would dare try to hurt any of my loved ones, but like I said, that's just me.
I love Emerson knives, they occupy a very special niche in the market; and a very special niche in my heart; I'm almost there with the funding for my Roadhouse, which means I'll never stop acquiring them.
Also, there is a great bunch of people here, and I'm very proud to be part of this subforum. Thank you for your patience. ;)

I know us corpsmen can gripe too but why didn't you just contact them first to see what options were offered to make you happy? I stead of putting them on blast and pretty much calling the company out. I've been nothing but happy with all of mine and when I needed services for my knives I was blown away at the professionalism and courtesy they gave me.

Exactly. Always contact the manufacturer before dissing them.

I see nothing wrong with what Boomer wrote. This is a forum after all. He didn't seem out of line to me, just disappointed. Spend all that money and wait to get his Horseman, then....That.
I'd have returned a twisted disc, too.

Glad to see a direct response from the company too.

I don't like that they removed the date from the blade. I sort of liked that. I still think they're getting ready to change steel. This year.

The steel will remain the same, 154CM. Any special knives that say S35V will just be for that specific model and run.

Maybe the rub was that he complained before going to the EKI Company for a resolution. Honestly EKI was not aware of the problem, as he did not first contact them with the problem, seeking a resolution before flaming EKI.

Like I said I have high expectation of people I spend money with, but just about 100% of the time give the company or person a chance to right a wrong before flaming them.

Physician, medical personal, police & firefighter are one of the exceptions, as they deal with life & death. So they should pay 110% attention to what they are doing 110% of the time.

Maybe perfection is not possible, but if you work towards perfection you may acheve it.
