I came here for the broads...

er...blades...I meant the blades.

Sure you did.
I have noticed that though women are few who admire these works of steel, the ones that do appear to be AWESOME ladies, in every respect wonderful; pretty, smart, personality plus, and caring. They're also are packing.

I don't really know what the mods could do to make things any easier. I think the biggest thing that we have a problem with right now is that the HI forum is split. It's not a logistical problem to make a link to both. It's not a traffic problem as I view both places equally. I'm every bit as interested in reviews and testing of HI blades as I am the jibba jabba of the Cantina. I think that is a psychological thing as we now must think before we post. Thread drift is kind of a no-no, but that's how it is.
I think the little atomic bomb we had a week or so ago made things more complicated than they had to be. Reviews of HI go in the HI forum. Mentioning another knife's feel in passing is fine, but not a heads up review. Blathering goes in the Cantina. Products that might be "apples to apples" should be taken into account before something is posted. We don't want a perception of bad blood from HI...and we don't want to aid the competition in our own house, frankly.

I think that the way the mods are modding is just fine. I know of mods that TNS and come across as pretty rough to me in some other forums on the net. However, i know they are babysitting most of the time as the people that frequent these places don't have manners. You guys are fair, open, and not heavy handed. Really, if things had played out just a little longer then i think we could have avoided having to have Cougar come in and straighten us out last week. I appreciate what Cougar does. He is fair, but being the superduperwhuper mod means that when he leaves, something must be done. The only way not to waste his time is to come down a little harder, by the book, and make things that were gray black and white. He has a tough job that i would not want. I think he is very good at what he has to do. Ask and ye shall receive, but be careful what you wish for:)

So i really don't know what the mods could do differently. You aren't drunk with power...yet;). You're being open. What else could you do? I think Bill and Rusty would be left scratching their heads after some of the stuff that has cropped up in the last year. You're doing fine. Enjoy it:)

Jake

I wanted the stuff last week to be in-house. I publically asked to leave it rest awhile. It was pursued and we know what happened; a door closed here. We've gotten away with a lot of slip sliding techicalities over the years because we weren't a problem. Last week was never about who was a good guy. It was about what we'd done and were gonna do.

Thanks for the clear thinking, Jake.

I can believe the part about Yangdu working the 16hr days. Between processing the shipments from Nepal, conversing with Birghorka on new items and the occassional special order, and dealing with us sharks she'll never lack for something to do.

The recent issues are just minor bumps in the road. They are not a catastrophe. They are not worth lost sleep, hard feelings, or paid bannings. Things will be calm again, as they have been in the past.

Bob

The Cantina is as strong as it ever was. No, it's not the 'old days', but there were plenty of changes over the course of those days as well. The only thing which has remained constant is the depth of character and support present in our membership. Not to mention the quality of our leadership. If anyone has been giving you a hard time about your conduct as a mod, they're wrong. Plain and simple. Don't allow a few bad apples to trouble you, you and Yangdu and Nasty are doing just fine.

What a place. I love it. We're a family and every family has its moments, both ways. This is our place, and it is good. More than good. :)

Chris

I'm glad you feel that way, Nam. Roadrunner, thank you for the fine help. I'd lost my perspective.

Munk, You have always been one of the mainstays of this place but even as a moderator you are not solely responsible for it. We all are. You are doing great just keep it up and all will continue to be great here.

Munk--I don't know if I qualify as an old hand or not, but I think you're doing a great job. The Cantina constantly evolves. Such is the way of living things.

Munk,

The only thing missing around here are Rusty and Uncle Bill. Those two were into everything we did here and if the place feels a bit strange; it is probably because after 80,000+ posts a thread wasn't a thread until it had been visited by Bill.

Munk, everything is great here, from my perspective.

Too tired to say much. I was already heading to bed in another thread!

I like how the mods do things. I like the balance of discretion and openness.

I like the fact that you all obviously care about this place.

I try to never let customers see a job in the middle. it can look ugly. This forum is both process and result though. The distressing sights can't always be hidden.

The end result is what I am after, as a craftsman.

You mods are artisans, with words, with people. There is heat, smoke, hammering, polishing, cutting away, discarding, adding, whatever...

Not every smith does things the same way as others.

The end result is still beautiful.

Tom

isn't it about time for Bruise to chime in with some funny reference about something or other?

( no pressure!:D )

Munk. Listen to Steve.
You can never please everyone.
Do not try.
Even the ultimate sponsor only finances this forum (BF)
without all of us, he has nothing!

We enthusiasts will surface somewhere else;)

Commerce in one form or the other will lose.

We make it personal, but the reality is different.

PS. Not trying to be deliberately obtuse - comes naturally:D

People always mourn the good old days. What happened to Bill and Rusty changed this place forever, and those of us who've been online long enough to know them are going to miss their presence. It wouldn't have mattered what you've done, when you lose a valued part of something you like, you can't say what you've got left is just as good. It's a matter of perspective. But I'm sure the people who visit now, the newcomers, still find this to be a great place. They don't have the sadness of losing those two valued members. When you go, these will one day be the people lamenting the good days when munk and yangdu were around.

you can't pick your relatives, but you can pick your friends. we have the best of both, a family of fiends, er i mean friends :)

Kronk me old mate - I might hold hands with you on this, but then again.... :D
We are a strange & close bunch of compatriots (broadly speaking)
PS...
Of all the gin joints, of all the bars and dipsy dumpers in the world, why did you guys pick this place to hang out?
Lets not get too personal:confused:.........:D

man, there was this japanese girl on a bicycle today, and she had the sweetest, roundest, curviest butt I ever saw. It was unbelieveable.
I would have paid for a picture of that rare gem of a rear.

What were yall talking about again?

I've been beating my head against the wall, blaming myself for not being Bill Martino, for not being Rusty. I was failing. I couldn't please everyone, the forum is percieved to be 'not as good' as it was.

Our forum. And if it doesn't work the way we'd like it to, we can figure something else to try. This is still the best forum I know. It'll go up and down.
I'm not going to be a sap about it. We can't do that to ourselves, because it's never about one or two people, it about everyone.

"And the beat goes on...."

I know this will sound heretical, but Bill and Rusty were just guys trying to do a job. We have romanticized and deified them, but they had people they couldn't please. They had people who would not speak to them, even in their darkest hours.

And sometimes, really not just "sometimes," but MOST OFTEN the noisiest people do not represent the majority! They claim to, but they don't!

The point here is that this is "OUR FORUM." People will come and go. Some people will stay. It is like how the HI khuks sometimes wander, but I believe that they end up in the right places.

"Though the branches go in different directions, the roots remain intertwined."

People are like that. As the "I Ching" says, "No Blame!"

"All you can do is all you can do and all you can do is enough."

I think that our mods are doing more than enough.

I don't see anything left to add after all these great posts.

Bill, I especially enjoyed the above post.

Yes. This needed to be said IMO:thumbup:

I don't think anyone is consciously deifying them--It's just when you lose people you just naturally remember the good and forget the bad.
