The Sardinian connection.

Hello Pukkoman,
You're right about the loop string ;)
The one with the two-color horn handle, second from the bottom, is my favorite of the bunch (I think.... no wait, the one below that.... or, second from the top....... ;) ).
The handle of this one is in horse shoe. The knife has been made by Andrea Melis of Sestu. It's a big knife with a 4'3 in (11cm) blade.

All the best .

I contacted our friend, I'm getting one just like Carl's, only a little bit bigger, about the size of the GEC single blade 73. Exactly the same.

The addiction widens...

Cool, thanks for the info Achille.

Dan, congrats in advance! Not sure how patient you are, but I was having trouble not counting the minutes until mine arrived.
Perhaps we should get them all together for a meet & greet, when yours hits home. :)

Dan, when you get yours, we'll have to give it a good baptism in well done BBQ! These knives were made to cut meat.

Hi friends,
Each time I'm very happy to read your interest in these beautifull knives.
But I would also advise you to use it in the traditional way, I mean with a carbon steel blade. With it you will see it evoluate and become really unique .

(note delivered to agent James "Sonny" Crockett, sent by officer Dan Martinez, US customs, Ft. Lauderdale airport)

"Sonny, I have some news for you. After our talk a few weeks ago, I've been personally helping out the special surveillance at the Ft. Lauderdale airport. So yesterday we got news that a suitcase containing handmade knives was to arrive on a flight from western Europe. Luggage detection was unsuccessful, but possibly due to a delay in communication. Yet, in the late afternoon Ricky, a young agentof my team, spotted a man in his mid 40's in the arrivals area, wearing an uncommon velvet suit (temp was around 90°) and standing in front of the passengers' arrival door for more than an hour. As my agent was keeping an eye on him, the man apparently received some signal from a group of arriving passengers, cause he suddenly turned around and walked out of the airport hall, all alone. As he turned around, his eyes crossed my agents watching him; he grinned slightly, and went on walking towards the exit doors. My agent reached him and took him in for a talk. The man had a valid Italian passport and no criminal record whatsoever. When Ricky asked him what he was doing there, he said he was waiting for someone who didn't show up, and that he was going back to his hotel by the beach. Curiously, in a "casual" search on his jacket while he was being checked, Ricky found a piece of paper with the address of a regular hotel in Raleigh NC, and a picture that might get your attention. Please let me know if you need more details on the man; personally, I think the suitcase is already on its way to destination. Here's the picture:

Ricky tried to talked tohim for quite a while, but the guy said nothing more, and in the end we had nothing against him so he walked away. Don't know if it can help you somehow, but as he was leaving the police office, rain was pouring down: the man put on a weirdly shaped black hat, looked up at the clouds, and (we had a microphone just two feet from him) muttered the words "abba de sero, friscu de manzanu", whatever that might mean. Regards, Dan"

That catches my eye! I like the silver bolster rather than brass, I begin to get restless....

Thanks, Will

(reply note by James "Sonny" Crockett, to US customs officer Dan Martinez)

"Dan, thank you for your work. I checked the information about the guy you stopped at the FLL airport; he appears to spend quite alot of time in Fort Lauderdale and is apparently unemployed. We believe that he works as local asset for the Sardinian connection. Sure enough, he was there to receive the suitcase, but he probably spotted too much police movements, used some sort of signal to the carrier, and left the airport with his hands empty. They probably have a B plan for delivering the package somewhere in southern FL. The knife in the picture, and the clothes he was wearing, speak clearly about his origins. Hopefully, we'll have better luck next time. By the way, I had an expert translate the words he said when he was leaving the police office under the rain; it's an old saying in Sardinian that means "rainy evening, fresh (cool) morning". My translator says it's used either about the weather (in the warm Mediterranean season, apparently that's how the climate works) or to say that bad things often prelude to good things. Thanks again for your help, and keep an eye on the guy"

Fausto,

Thanks for bringing your culture to us in such a graceful way.

Âchille, that is another spectacular looking piece of horn as well! I just love the red and dark streaks that are within the horn!
These knives have called to me for a loooong time since the first time I noticed Fausto showcasing them here in Traditionals. They just have such a pure form to them. I am rooting for the success of the shady man in the velvet suit, who operates in the shadows, to succeed in his mission ;)

(note dispatched to the Miami police dept. from detective Marco Buratti, Interpol)

"Dear colleagues, some days ago I read your alert about the illegal organization devoted to international knife smuggling and now known as the Sardinian Connection, from what I've learned from your note. When I first got the alert, I thought I had nothing for you, but then I recalled something and went through my files to check it. I'm currently investigating a matter of family revenge running all through Sardinia and Corsica, but believe me, it's incredibly hard to get into these people's life and earn their trust or gather any sort of information. Apparently, it's a very closed environment, and foreigners are treated with cold kindness and left outside any personal matter...so I know what it's like to investigate these people. Anyway, this morning I remembered that last weekend we were tracking a man who's probably not involved in the revenge matter but surely knows about it, and we hoped he could be approached somehow. While we were following him - he was driving at the entrance of a coast town named Alghero - a drunk driver crashed against him. Both men were basically unharmed, but my agent arrived even before the ambulance, and he was able to sneak inside the car and take a look around, and take some pictures. The man was out for leisure and having a glass of mirto with some friends, so he really had nothing that caught our interest (my agent wasn't able to grab his phone, as the paramedics were already around him and taking him to the hospital for a check). Yet, the man was carrying two knives in a small wooden case in the back seat of his car, and this one surely looks alot like the one in your picture. If you think this might interest you, please contact me and I'll give you all the help I can provide. Regards, Marco"
