The Satin FABM! Well Almost!

Stunning work!!

Did you take the slabs off the handles?
If you did, any trouble re-riviting?

Ban,
As it has been said many, many times here before, you do tremendous work. Your patience and skill are really quite amazing. The "flow" of your end product also takes nothing away from an already great blade and IMO adds to it. Keep up the great work. And if you ever find yourself unemployed, give Jerry a hollar because I'm sure he could utilize your talent in the shop.

Holly Crap!!! I'd heard about this bad boy but I didn't picture this....it's still thick Ban...well kinda! :D Looks great bro...I think you have finally convinced me, time to spend some cash!

Now to decide which one.....

Real Mods are better done by the Busse Custom Shop. They are professionals and are better equipped. You don't want no schmoe mucking around with your expensive busse blades ;)

Oh, yes, it is better done with Busse Custom Shop, but......WHO IS WILLING TO SUFFER THE WAIT?

From picture of yours, your blade is prove by my eyes
Veriii Nice, Veriii Nice...you have a MAD skills :D

That is AMAZING work!

I wish I had the patience/skill to even attempt something like that. Hats off to you bro.

Go with the Coote. :D

.

That is real nice!.

Have you figured out a way to straighten out the handles yet?:foot:

very nice!

i particularly like the spine and drop point. makes it look like a totally different model.

the blade reminds me of a shbm.

Thanks for the encouraging words guys. This one was truly a labor of love.

I am gonna try to answer most of the questions in one post so here goes.....

Yes, the handle slabs had to be removed and then reinstalled after the satin finish.

This one was not taken down to zero edge because I wanted to be able to use it hard and still retain a decently strong edge. Having said that, the edge is still really thin. I tried some test chops with it before putting on the satin finish and handle slabs. It easily ate through 1-1 1/2" of 2X4 with medium to full power chops. I think I can chop through a 2X4 within 20 chops.

The handle is much more balance now with the balance point right in front of the choil. It is very fast for a knife this size.

I like the SHBM and the Prototype FBM profile and that was what I was trying to attempt. Midway I decided to keep it more of drop point while still trying to keep as much as the blade length as possible. I only lost about 1/4" off the tip compared to the CGFBM.

Solstice,

As I was telling you the other day.... If I had to do it all over again i would go with the Coote. You get more options in terms of being able to change out the the wheel attachments from 1/2"-however big. You also get to select your own motor and can turn it to a variable speed if you chose to do so.

With the Grizzly, what you see is what you get. No options whatsoever. If the motor goes the whole thing is garbage. Mine is also sometimes very finicky about tracking correctly. But I can't really complain because I have had this thing for close to 10yrs now.

I am trying to save up for a KMG and all these ganzas aren't helping.

While I would never call Mr. Ban a 'schmoe,' I suspect this is good advice.

Oh and I forgot to add.... The Grizzly grinds at a fixed blazing speed of 3200 rpm. This tends to heat up whatever you are working with pretty darn fast!

I'm curious... how bad were the dimples on the CG?

Also... did you reduce the top hump in the handle any or leave as it was?

Man I can't stop looking at this beauty! :D

The dimples on flats of this one wasn't too bad because there are not much flats to speak of. I only had a few deep gouges in the handle area. The dimples are the least of your worries. Those corrugated bevels are a real pain to get off.

I left the top hump alone and only removed enough material to be able to polish the spine.

Nice work!:thumbup: If I tried reshaping like that, I'm afraid I'd end up with a toothpick!
