The Schrade Walden 153 Uncle Henry...Golden Spike & Schrade 153UH variations..

One may review the decline of the middle class in this country to get a timeline and one of the chief reasons for the decline of Sears. Sears was the retailer of the middle class. They didn't cater to the lower economic class looking for a bargain, nor to the upper economic classes looking for fashion and prestige. As middle class purchasing power declined with the value of the dollar and loss of better paying jobs, more people began shopping discount stores looking for the cheapest goods, regardless of quality or durability or origin.

These were found fairly recently. I was hoping to maybe see a SW stamp on the sharpfingers but I guess not. Probably just samples. Maybe you can make heads or tails out of it Codger.

A couple are obviously reground 15OTs. The others I haven't a clue. Playtime in the garage or tool room? I suppose the answer lies in who found them and where.

ETA: As much as possible, let's try to keep this thread on track with the OP topic. The Schrade Walden 153UH.

oh the favorite site to find falsies just noticed a real Schrade Walden 153 being offered. course it is not under Schrade but Shrade. kinda pricey but for those that do not have one thought i would mention it.

What good is correct spelling of a name anyway? ;)

this is the numbering when we first started looking at these so the new one for sale fits in the semi middle of the serial numbers.

Serial number range for the Schrade Walden 153UH so far;

00143
00220
00378
00438
00690
00773
01666
01857

These are all the serials we have identified as belonging to members here. Any more?

On the topic of the steel change/serials ending/engineering changes/"+" added, I happened across yet another box of long lost knives while packing. In it were the two 153UH I vaguely remembered owning years ago. The earlier carbon blade was serial #388975 and the later stainless one was only a few hundred later in serial and yet without the "+" mark. So those with knives in that rough serial range might check to see if it is stainless yet not marked as such.

It's reasonable to assume from our current research that there were 2000 odd released into Schrade World 1972/73 during and after the transistion.....how many have survived with many being used for their intended purpose through the years is the big question.....there may be more but they may not be real purrty examples...I have shown a 'Schrade only' example, whose Serial No is #02616 and I doubt it is the first 'Schrade only' made... so we can expect to see Schrade-Walden examples serial numbered to about 2000 IMO........time will tell...Hoo Roo

You've done well Larry. Both in practicing abstinence and in starting to bracket the production time span. No doubt we will discover unknown minor production variations this way. Gudonya.
