the sebenza of flashlights

Small production runs, high end materials, extremely simple, robust mechanisms, with a focus on mechanical quality and performance over cosmetic perfection? Yea, that sounds like McGizmo all the way. Don doesn't chase trends in the flashlight world. He sticks to a very simple design philosophy and just tries to make the best all around edc light he can. Not the brightest or the smallest or the fanciest. Just a well-rounded light.

For me it would be either a McGizmo or a SPY007.

Someone mentioned Streamlight? I would equate them with CRKT. For many people they are more than adequate and are of decent quality, but a Sebenza they are not.

I like the quality of Surfire. I have one but the batteries only last an hour and the batteries get expensive. I wanna try an LED, maybe the outdoorsman, and see how it will do for an everyday flashlight. I know it will not be as bright as some of the others they offer. As far as a defensive flashlight goes, the defender one they offer looks to be the best, I almost bought that one several times. The one I have is the G2 and its only 60 lumes I think and is VERY bright, and it does blind you for sure momentarily.

I have a few Surefires. One of them is a G2. Its a good light for the money, but mine use to eat batteries like they were going out of style.
So I called SF and found out there was a period of G2's that had defective tail caps. They sent a new one for free and it fixed the problem.

I have only used SF's for years, and have never felt the need to try other brands.

I've only owned it since yesterday, but I'm very impressed.
It has a low mode that still throws a beam far and it's supposed to go 150 hours run time on (lumen's 7). The middle mode is 90 lumen's (run-time 12hrs) and the max is 250 (run-time 4 hrs). That's like a laser beam. Very bright and focused. (there's a strobe also on the 250 mode)

Morimotom sent me two Nitecores to try out (a D20 and a Defender) those convinced me to go ahead and get a decent light. They were very impressive and this OLIGHT has really pleased me even more so. The build quality is excellent and the adjustment of the lighting modes can be done with one hand, with a simple 1/8 turn of the front ring forwards and back.

I wasn't going to get a 123 powered light, but after reading reviews decided to and the reviews pointed me to this model. All in all I'm very happy with my purchase and the price (74.00 shipped).:) The light will do everything I need!

that's a nice looking light jj!

how do you change the brightness settings?

I too have an Olight M20, after reading all of the reviews of flashlights in that price range. I decided to go with the olight over a surefire E2DLed defender. I'm very happy with it--also bought a bike mount and use it as a bike light.

However, the Sebenza of flashlights would have to be milky modded ones and McGizmo's.

Polarion PH40 Helios HID. Pumps out 4150 Lumens. About 12 inches long and weighs 4lbs! It's also around $2K. But it will burn your eyeballs out.

Now I WANT THAT.

I would probably say McGizmo

Man, other than the fact that I agree with you, THAT IS A 100% SWEET DUO!

You too TKC!

In terms of custom-for-custom build quality matched with high-desireability factor, its the McGizmo's.

I only own 1 McGizmo which is the Sundrop XP beadblasted which is a work of art, IMHO. A flood of light (~10') is pretty useful for me in certain situations.

I plan to own a McGizmo Haiku & a RA Twisty (new ver., whenever it comes out)

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the Surefire Titan. Perhaps it is obsolete already. As has been said the technologies are changing very fast.

For me it would be either a McGizmo or a SPY007.

+1 SPY007

CoolFallGuy has an amazing product. Most technologically advanced light on the market? Maybe? Regardless, probably out of the price range of most people. Perfect for the Sebenza of Flashlights. ;)

I edc the AAA every day on my key ring. I like it better than the Arcs and Fenix lights I've had in the past.

Like a Sebenza it isn't the flashiest, it isn't the most expensive and it isn't the absolute end all of flashlights but it is absolutely well built and reliable. It works for me!

I've never held a Sebenza and I know there are better lights around but I have to agree, the Maratac AAA is really the only light I need. It's a plus that it's always on me.
Now just because it's all I need doesn't mean it's all I want. :D

Flashlights are not comparable to knives. The shiznit flashlight of today will be the bargain-bin light of tomorrow.

Save your bucks.

Buy a light that fills your needs and save your money. And no matter what, I would have to definitely recommend AGAINST Surefire--they're flying on the fumes of past glories at this point and are waaay over priced.
