My brother has asked me to sharpen his BM 910, but I don't have any experience sharpening tanto style blades. I don't want to round off the corners. I use the sharpmaker (model 204) for all of my sharpening needs. Any advice anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

When sharpening my tanto, I always do the long part of the edge and the tip seperately, to avoid rounding off the corner. Good luck, Buddy!

Thanks for the advice! All of my knives are plain edge clippoints or droppoints. I've never sharpened a tanto point. I'll just have to go slow and easy....

I also second the Lansky for tanto's. But for occasional touch-ups on the 204 I use the sticks in the "V" when doing the primary edge of my 905. I then do the tip free hand with the stones laying in the back of the base. Works very well this way.

It's only a mistake if you fail to learn from it!
