The Sheeple are at it again!!!!!!!!!!

Where I work, we are not "allowed" to use "personal" knives....you might cut yourself. I might add that I work in a glass factory. The company provides us with these string cutters for opening materials. Personally, I use my own knife more than their's, it works better and is always sharp. I have also sharpened knives for supervisors who choose to use their own too.

If you're going to carry a defense-grade blade around any modern office, you're going to have to carry a smaller "pure tool" knife of some sort to open boxes or whatever.

That's just the reality. Yes, sheeple are idiots.

I carry a Sifu concealed, daily, and almost always have my Gerber Multitool on belt. That never causes trouble. Failing that, there's a Swisstech Utilikey on my keychain. So the Sifu is reserved purely for "emergency social work" of a type I hope I never need.

Even if you're carrying a 4" or smaller class piece, if it could give any impression of "fighter", keep it totally out of sight.

This summer I had a job working for Sprint doing computer related/inventory stuff. One of my jobs was to unpack computers, repair them, then re-package them. So, I started work and without thinking, pulled out my auto and opened the box easily. (It was a cheap auto...didn't want my good knives getting lost or damaged) When I looked up, two of my co-workers stared at me like I was some sort of psycho. They stared to ask me why I had such a thing...I explained to them how useful knives were and told them the many advantages of auto knives. After that they were cool about it...my boss didn't care either...People don't appreciate knives and realize their importance until you use one to fix something of theirs or help them open something...There needs to be a national knife education week or something...

Carrying 'weapons' in the company where I work is a major infraction according to the employee handbook. I still carried a small folder daily (Klotzi 4") which I use for a various chores.

Once had an ugly argument with a new HR manager who insisted it was a weapon and that he would have to confiscate it. Jerk wasn't event my boss, just an a**hole trying to feel important. One of the few times in my life where I completely lost my temper. I told him where he could stick his head and that he was welcome to try to take it if he can. Luckily for all involved, my boss intervened. Guy left after a few months (wasn't popular with the other folks too).

Looking back at the incident, it was probably stupid and reckless of me to have reacted that way. Nowadays, I keep my knives hidden and only use them around people I know well.

At work, I am known as "knife boy". My co workers ask me to sharpen their kitchen knives for them and my first knife that I made and sold was to a co worker. Even the boss finds it amusing that i have knives on me at all times. For all of you guys that are given a problem about it, try this. Get an Old Timer Stockman or something. Small, non locking blades in a old style pattern rarely scare people and can even cut beter than some of the high tech stuff. $20 for a 4" stockman with 1095 steel blades isn't that bad, maybe spring for a boker stag handled one with 440C blades (4474) or one with high carbon blades. Look nice and dont scare people. My genesis 2 was showed up by an ancient stockman with 1095 blades for general cutting stuff. Stockman, peanut, barlow, etc dont scare people, its the bigger single bladed knives that do, like my Genesis. People think something with a blade larger than 2" is a weapon for some reason, rather than utility. Also, the fast opening feature and black blades tend to scare people and scream weapon. They dont understand that the coating is to prevent rust, not to be stealthy. Black blade military knives contribute to this misconception. How many KaBars dont have black blades? Now, at work, I carry a genesis 2 in my pocket, the aforementioned stockman, gerber microlight LST sometimes, leatherman in my bag or on my belt and sometimes my Lynx lockback i made from a kit from Jantz. No complaints so far about carrying so many blades and people know to come to kme when they need something cut instead of using those cheapy throw away utility knives. Key is to have something that looks "pretty" (stag handles, rosewood handles, not tactical black G10 or micarta), something that wont scare people (classic patterns, smallish blades, open it slowly, etc). If people are offended by a SAK, they have problems in general. To counter this, sharpen a pencil really really sharp and use it to open boxes, or try to. Then use the keys, make it look like they dont work, then pull the SAK. No one will mind as long as that box gets opened! Well, I gotta go cram for a Urban Sociology test. Enough rambling, I gotta do a lot of BS on this test!
