The sheeple haven't taken over!

Good stories everyone, thanks for sharing. black mariah, you bring up a good point, but I don't think it really applies to me. I actually had very few issues of scaring people with my knives until I joined the Army. I'm sort of quiet and withdrawn most of the time, so I suppose that places me in the creepy loner category for some people. I had one of my platoon sergeants threatening me with a psych eval in Korea because I would clean my fingernails with my EDC . Oh, the horror! It helped my case a bit when I was the only guy around with both a knife and a lighter and she needed some 550 cord needed to be cut.

t1mpani, you are so right. Ironic as all get out. I'd have the same feeling, when someone would label me a 'psycho' for sharpening my own knives, yet not bat an eye when I would get all excited about qualifying with a .50 caliber machine gun. Screw the gun, he's got a knife!

To reiterat though, I didn't post this because I get a lot of harrassment and for once it became a positive thing. It's just that so often you see guys complaining about how some moron tried to get them in trouble at work or won't talk to the "knife-wielding psycho", so it's easy to forget that good stuff happens too. Good comments are fun to mention too. So keep 'em coming guys!

Finally, FYI, I'm too cheap to buy any knife magazines, besides which, being a smoker, spend my breaks standing outdoors having a smoke, not sitting around reading.

Gawd, I hope that wasn't intended to sound as condescending toward "sitting around reading" as it sounded. Almost came off as though you were saying standing outdoors having a smoke was a better choice or something.

You already know everything I might otherwise say about it being worthwhile to quit smoking and spend the time maybe learning, so I won't say any more about it.

Just to throw a little point out there: Wouldn't reading these forums be much like reading a knife magazine, if not even more informative?

Nah Jeff, I love to read, just never get the chance to do it on my breaks at work because I'm a smoker. I was going to write "bannished to the outdoors" :D

Ah, I'm BUSTED! OK, so every once in a blue I sneak a peek at BladeForums at work while eight bazillion lines of code are compiling. OTOH, it's free and I'm not in the break room. :D
