I've been collecting and using since March of this year. So far I've acquired:

1. CRK Large and Small Micarta Sebenza 21s, Umnumzaan, and Ti-Lock
2. Strider SMF CC
3. Emersons. Only one other that I'd want cqc-15
4. All spydercos that interested me that have come and gone
5. Same with benchmades in general

I'm not interested in fixed blades, balisongs, or autos. Outside of a hinderer, and full on customs, what am I missing from my collection? Spending more on ornamental knives like wood inlayed crks doesn't appeal to me much, and the only knife I'm really waiting on is the ZT 0560 which I'm hoping will appease my desire for a hinderer.

What's one that you would add to the collection within reason? I'm feeling like the addiction may finally be wearing out and it has me a little worried

Sounds like you are ready to acquire custom made knives. All the ones you listed are mass produced, or at least regular production models.
Another fun way to collect is to hunt for rare production versions (such as the Buck/Strider) or vintage models. The difficulty in obtaining rare knives will slow down your spending too!
I also enjoy collecting different blade steels, and using them to experience the unique qualities of each. In the process, I have learned quite a bit about metallurgy which was a fun exercise.

Run! Run, while you still have a chance and money in your wallet..... Or you can start looking at more traditional knives like case slipjoints.

Get the Hinderer.....i personally like the heft of the XM-24.

I was in awe of the XM when i got it:)

Looks like you're into modern tacticals.

Try to find these discontinued gems -

Camillus CUDA Maxx
Microtech LCC
REKAT Sifu

How many knives are we talking about here? Items #4 and #5 are pretty vague. How many have you bought this year?

What's wrong with fixed blades? Legality, is only a concern if you want to carry in public, but not so much in the woods. There are other blades as well, Tomahawks, axes, machetes, big choppers, kiridashi styles, and of course swords.
Guns are also great. Some used guns can be sold later for the same price or more, depends on what you get into.
There's nothing like a .357 magnum in one hand and a great Tomahawk in the other, who's gonna mess with ya?

Why don't you try collecting less expensive, but really interesting knives? I have plenty of expensive knives, sure. But I also find enjoyment in finding interesting locking mechanisms and opening mechanisms, such as the compression lock, axis lock, Nak-Lok, and others. I recently purchased a Kershaw OD-1 and took it apart and learned how it worked. Very fascinating, and there are hundreds of other knives with cool mechanisms in there that actually are quite functional. :)

What size do you like to carry? If heft isn't a problem it sounds like you need to go Lionsteel or Hinderer. How about one of the new Spyderco/Lionsteel Lionspys coming out in a month or so? Around $330 to $340 with Elmax. Or get on a list for the ZT 0777 but they are going to cost upwards of $480 street. The 0777 has me on the fence with the "modern" look it has but that video of it flipping has me mesmerized with the KVT pivot . . .

:D

Custom is the next step.

Try finding a Lochsa, it will take you a few years and keep you on the edge of your seat.

I know I'm going to be burned as a heretic in this company but...

Why not just walk away? Most of my interests, this included, are cyclical. I've learned to go with it. Enjoy what you've acquired, pick up on something else, learn 90% of what there is to know about it, when you come back to knives there will be lots of new and exciting stuff, you'll have broadened your horizons, possibly saved some bucks, and won't have another half-drawer full of obsolete knives.

There's a point of diminishing returns in almost any interest, you start having to invest more and more money, time, research and attention for smaller and smaller increments of improvement. As a good friend and mentor of mine put it (about jobs and contracts, mostly), "The point of surfing is NOT to ride the wave all the way into the beach. You ride one until it's not so interesting anymore, then you kick out and find another".

Thats why God invented multitools, flashlights, Maxpedition products and guns. I've pretty much worn out an addiction in each of those areas as well.

You've done away with reason when you paid over 400 dollars for a knife. Work harder and buy really expensive knives.

Don´t worry. Soon you´ll find Victorinox Climber in your pocket again... and the expensive folders tucked away in a box somewhere. A cheap SAK is all you really need. I know cause I´ve been there!

I've acquired about 50 knives since March. Mostly spyderco and benchmade. I've gotten rid of most of my benchmades and held on to my favorite ones. Sage, ti military, para 2, dragonfly g10, sprint lum tanto. Still have some that I'm trying to get rid of.

Benchmades I still have are my lfti and sequel. Again, I have a few others that I'm trying to get rid of.

Basically everything I was interested in in their 2010-2011 catalogs I've had and handled and sold off or traded.

Sounds like you have disposable cash. Firearms?

Haha. I don't really have disposable cash. I've already bitten off more than I should chew. I'm not dying, but could afford to take a break unless there's really something I have to have :P

I Love shooting but with two little girls running around the house, a gun just doesn't sound good.
