I was realizing today that I hadn't said or done anything really stupid for quite awhile and since I'm about due, will ask this one.

What's the connection with knives and skulls???
Seems like every third producer out there has a skull as part of their logo, sales materials, or graphics on their knives?

Is there some historical significance to it? A legend I am unaware of? Or is it really only based on the idea of causing mayhem, pirates, and holding a knife in your teeth???

Because knives are bad-ass, and skulls are bad-ass, so if you put them together, it must be ultra bad-ass!

It just plays to the operator/survivalist/he-man/machismo subculture that comes along with knives... happens with motorcycles, guns, and anything else marketed to the "tough guy" inside us all. Right along with sex, drugs, and rock-roll. It's so ingrained in us, that we don't realize it's happening.

Guys just think they're cool, so don't overthink it. :D

They put skulls on poison because its dangerous. Knives are ULTRA dangerous so they get skulls too.

It’s a diagram that means ‘touch this and people will die.’

It is probable that the combination of skull and blade is an info graphic which spells death by the sword. But any skull sans any other object represents "death" either way. The knife maybe a pretty ancient weapon, but is still potent and is seen as a cold and bloody up close weapon. And so as a symbol it does spell badass and beware.

It could have something to do with the tacticool crowd. Sd knives are in high demand right now, using logos and symbols that appear tough on tactical knives supposedly makes them more appealing. Personally, I don’t find them very appealing, but apparently a lot of folks do.

I would go further than that and ask :What's the deal with skulls in general ? o_O
Skulls on tee shirts, skull stickers on cars, skull tattoos, skull rings, other skull jewelry.
It's tooooooo much.
One day people will look back on it like many do today who think about the big fuzzy hair and other things from the eighties or seventies and think : What were we thinking ? What was that about ?

There is one explanation that was given to me that all the skull stuff tells the rich that they are killing the ones with the skulls with all their greed. I tried to find a page on line just now speaking to that and found nothing.

I'm on the bottom of the ladder and I still won't wear any skull items.
AND CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT THAT ON MY KNIVES.

Like all magic , skull depictions are an attempt to ward off or control and harness powers that we fear . Maybe if you believe , it might even work .

I liked skulls before they were all "operator/tapout/Affliction/UFC/bullsh*t". It's pretty much reached saturation level at this point. These days, mainly loved and worn by DBs.

One of my senior design projects in college many moons ago was "the iconography of the skull". (Seriously)

Skulls on knives... Ehhhhhh, it's not a draw nor a barrier for me. The design and construction of the knife is far more important than any imagery.

Short answer - skulls are cool, but have been appropriated by the douchebag crowd which pains me to no end.
