The skull thing

I’m not enamoured by skulls, but am happy to own ESEE knives. It’s an inconsistency to which I own up.

But in the words of Emerson, “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

I like skulls

For the same reason I call my knives "death slicer", "throat pick" and "zombie impaler"

OK?

I had a customer a couple days ago who had two skulls on each arm facing different directions (at least . . . I was trying not to look too close). I guess he has evil coming at him from the four directions. His son was with him (I'm guessing) who was covered with pot leaf tattoos.
As I say to The Chef when I want to gain some points : I page through a catalogue ( of tools or knives) and say "Don't need that. Don't need that. Oh look at all the things I don't need to buy."

Aaaaawesome . . . there can now be a sequel !
Ghost of Marvin
Oooooohhhhhhhh THAT makes me SERIOUSLY angry ! ! !

I have to admit, I find a skull motif on most stuff kind of distasteful, but it doesn't bother me since there are plenty of options without one.

I know some folks that like it because many, many military units have incorporated skulls into their symbology and they feel it's an homage to those groups. Others just think they look cool.

I'm pretty much live and let live when it comes to this hobby, so I'll continue to avoid skulls on knives, but I'm glad they're there for those that like 'em.

Bc then they can sell equally badass stickers for the buyers to put on their lifted F250 super duty turbo diesel that they drive despite working in an office building...
That I might add has no scratches in the bed.
yuuuuup

If you dig up a real skull by accident and it goes spinning between your feet you'll lose the love for skull's real quick! Don't ask me but I know..

Must be a skul and bone society fashion statement by those rowdy Yale grads! Real knivists go to Harvard :p

The skull motif on knives strikes me as stemming mostly from military roots. It's not exactly a new phenomenon.

The very real presence and immediacy of death in war sometimes give soldiers a macabre sense of humor.

Occasionally they incorporate that into their morale artwork, implying that death is for their enemies, not for them.

The United States has been waging war continually in multiple conflicts for going on two decades now. Between guys coming back from combat and those going off to fight, I guess there's a growing market for skulls on all things tough and tactical, including knives.

Two decades? Try, at least 10. :( 1918 WWI ends, 1945 WWII ends, 1953 Korean war ends, 1975 Vietnam ends; we now have Iraq/Afghanistan ongoing. Call them wars, police actions or whatever, it is war to those in it. You are right, however, skulls have been inserted into the symbology of them all. Look back to Genghis Khan and his mountains of skulls and I'm sure before that. Now, however (and, again maybe a long time before), it is "cool" for the "wannabes".
