The slots instead of just rivet holes?

Howdy,

Any of you folks out there want to explain how you make the slots instead of just rivet holes?

Thanks in advance for taking the time...

On production kitchen knives they normally have one slot and one round hole, those would be punched out.

You can drill two holes and cut out the centre or use a milling machine to create the slot.

Are you talking about slots in kydex?? Without a milling machine I would just drill consecutive holes the size and length you would like and file out the slot to what you want. If you don't do that you could drill two holes and use a piece of a hacksaw blade to cut the straight part. Another thought would be to heat that part of the sheath up and use an hobby knife the cut the slot, but I am not sure if that would work at all. Well those are my ideas, I have not tried any of them on kydex but it works on other material pretty good. Let us know what you come up with.

Whoops, that was late last night. I meant the slots in the sides of kydex Sheaths.

Thanks for the tips, I like the idea of using the blades. Drilling two holes then cutting between them looks like it would work well. I once tried to set up my dremel as a little router but didn't have good luck. I think I should have made some sort of vice to hold the sheath while I routed.

Try to mount your dremel under the table with the bit facing up. Drill the two holes and set the sheath in the bit and move the sheath while the tool sits stationary, similar to a router table. Build a box or frame big enough for the dremel to sit in an figure out what size nut will fit the collar of the dremel and just screw it in. You may need to brace the tool a bit as to not get any play in it but I can just see it now... "WOW it worked great" ~ursusrebrum

OK I may be a bit full of my self but it got to at least be cheaper than buying a router table. :) BUT that may be the real ticket, just a big expense for something you may only use occasionally.

Hold the phone I just looked it up and they make a small router table for the dremel and it looks fairly inexpensive.

I think I am going to try the dremel router table. It is cheap and I have been thinking about all the other ways that I can use it for kydex. Maybe even less time on the grinder and the pocket Sheaths with pant hooks.

That`s what i came up with...i am not 100% satisfied i think i need to try a different bit the walls of the slots are not totally smooth
Sory for the bad angle & lighting

Oh hell ya that is awesome! Nice work Linos! I went with the Dremel machine and tried out a couple of the slots. The fence that comes with it does not impress me much, seems a little weak. What did you use for the table?
