This little Pemberton is Much better than nothing, a good little work Horse. Jelly beans are never intimidating to the non knife crowd. :D

Best regards

Great looking pen knife!! A GEC #33 is about as small as I carry these days at 3 3/8" closed but I do have smaller ones that I've carried often as well. Here are my user #33s (minus a recently re-acquired ebony user). Different covers and steels for different occasions.

These have been posted frequently but they fit the bill for this thread. One of them is always in my pocket, unless I'm somewhere they aren't allowed. A little knife can be very handy.
The clip point is 2 3/4"
The Wharncliffe is 2 7/8"
Both made by Hiroaki Ohta

I've seen pictures of these posted before, but never knew they were sub 3" knives. Very cool. I like them even more now (if that was possible).

Lovely selection Jack. These small knives have obviously always been very popular. People must of found them useful.

The size is what drew me to them. That and the stag. Little gems, but made to do the job. Thanks for the nice comment.

A few of my weens :)

Jack, a few? Just a few???;):D:thumbup:

Very nice knives everyone. I especially like the oldies!

My only contribution is this new - by the standards of this thread - GEC Conductor. I think it's aging pretty well for a young 'un, though. ;)

Very nice indeed keith. Like that one a lot.

This is my "small" knife. It's 3 5/8" closed, but carries much smaller because it is so trim.

There are many occasions when even a medium sized folder is more than is required or appropriate; Family occasions, meals out, dinner parties, meetings etc. It's on these occasions that a small folder is often better than nothing. A couple of years ago I acquired a small two bladed penknife with ivory scales and nickel-plated bolsters at a car-boot sale, for the princely sum of one pound. Though I realised it was a bargain, I couldn't have imagined how often I would use it as my go-to knife for these occasions. I wondered if anyone else has a small knife which they use for this purpose?

I have for many years now, been a champion for the little pocket knife in the sub 3 inch range. I used to carry a stockman in the 3 7/8ths size, but downsized out of curiosity. My dad had passed away, and his old Case peanut was laying in the tray on top of my dresser, so one boring on a whim I dropped it in my pocket as I went off to work. I guess I was conducting some sort of experiment, because I made it a point to use the peanut every time I needed a knife. MUch to my surprise, I found it opened boxes, cut tape, and al other things just as good as my larger knife. So I need up buying a Yellow handle peanut for my own real use. This lead to a several year obsession with small knives. Peanuts, Victorinox classic's after watching my better half torture one for months.

As I got older, I found myself thinking more abut what I really needed in the course of a day. My pockets began to have other stuff in them, so anything that needed less real estate and still do the job was a good thing. Little flashlights, small magnifier glass, mini bic lighter instead of the full size one. For years the peanut was my go-to knife, but a problem with arthritis finally made me carry a less fumble apt pocket knife last year. But a very generous forum member here, who's the new Grand High Muckba Of The Cult Of The Peanut, granted me a very nice Camillus made Remington peanut with 1095 blades and anise easy pull. So now I am back in the saddle.

The other thing about little to tiny pocket knives, they have a very innocent air about them. I live on the outskirts of Washington D.C., and the better half and I spend a good deal of time 'downtown'. In this day and age of terrorism, Washington D.C. is probably one of the most secure cities around. Most government buildings have strict limits on cutlery, but a small peanut size jack or pen knife slips through security with no problem. Many times my little Victorinox classic or Case peanut didn't even get a second look, except the Case damascus peanut got comments on how pretty it was, surprisingly from most of the female guards.

Now I'm back carrying a sub 3 inch knife and loving it. MOre room for Bison capsule of meds, pipe tool, pencil, Fenix E01 flashlight, mini bottle of Purrell Hand Sanitizer, and RONCO pocket defibrillator in case of the senior citizen vapor lock. Yet I can still cut twine in the garden, trim fishing line, open the accused plastic blister packages, and open my mail neatly. Life is good with small. :)

Some small knives that have given me very good service in the past. Sometimes less is more! The damascus 'nut is in the hands of the current sitting Grand High Muckba of The Cult.

Thanks Blake. Yes, I believe they have, I have absolutely loads of them, and come across small knives more than anything else

This little guy always amazes me. A whole lot of knife in a tiny package. It's with me most days.

This mighty nut gets used daily.

Here's a couple of really tiny ones next to my Radio Jack! :D

I have some very strong suspicions that most of the pocket knives sold to non knife enthusiasts have been of the small pen knife type. I have little to base my suspicions on, except that most of the surviving pocket knives of our grandfathers days that seem to have a lot of honest wear and tear from use, seem to be small ones. A good number of the larger folding knives that are from 75 to 100 years ago seem to have little wear, and maybe spent a lot of time in a drawer someplace instead of a pocket. So many of the small pen knives I see are in bad shape with 50% sometimes gone from the blades, and other signs of wear and tear.

My old man once said something to me that I never forgot. I asked him once when I was a kid why he carried such a small pocket knife. He told me that his pocket knife got carried a lot, and used a little now and then. In the meantime he didn't want to be reminded it was there.

Family members beat the heck out of their little Victorinox classics. I usually get something other than red for the cousins and uncles, and flowers or pink classics for the cousins and aunts. Some want more with different designs. Due to work, school or college, they are the only allowed blades.

Myself, I didn't give them a second glance. Until I was gifted a Remington peanut by Carl, which I passed on to a friend of mine, who didn't give them a second glance either but always has that one. Now I've got two damascus peanuts, one from Duane and one from Carl, and have been eying custom peanuts.

Winning hearts and minds.
