Got a zaan, so in love with the quality had try a small

Got a small with micarta, wow the micarta saved the day...I don't think I could stand it even a hair smaller and I don't have big mits....

I am used to carrying larger knives, I guess, however I will see if I get big knife performance from this little guy.

I am used to quality knives yet am sort of new to sebbies and I must say these knives are really built with awesome tolerances, the best I can compare them to is quality firearms, with firearms fit and finish is needed to function, on these knives it wouldn't be necessary to function but the overkill quality is there anyway.

The point of this thread I guess is for anyone that has not handled the "small" be sure you realize how small it truly is....before you pull the trigger, you may be surprised

And that as silly as this may seem to others I really do wish a medium was made, I would buy it.... A medium zaan (I know others have talked about a small zaan) would be awesome...

I agree. I use to carry/own nothing except the larges and Zaans. When I got my first small it took me by surprise. Man, tiny!!!!!

Well, cut to a few knives later and I don't own any larges OR Zaans anymore. I love the small Sebenza. I had a Classic in african blackwood for about two days, was a large and just didn't feel right.

Not that long ago I swore I'd never get a small, that's all I have these days :D

The scales are small, but the cutting length of the blade is about the size of a Para 2. So its small on the outside and big on the inside. Magic.

All I have are small sebenzas: plain jane, micarta, decorated, and the starbenza...I prefer the small plain by far! Simple elegance!

My new plain-jane small just arrived today! I got an email that the package had been delivered just 14 minutes before, ran downstairs to see my girlfriend placing a nicely wrapped gift behind a couch. Dammit! I'll have to wait til the 25th!

Having never held any Sebbie before, this thread removed any doubts that the small is the size for me.

Sebbies, large or small, are just great cutting tools. Frankly, size is not as important as how you use it. Sheesh ..... did I just say that?

I wrote a story long ago here about my wife(ex) and I were whitetail hunting, she got one. I tried using and aviator to field dress it without much luck. The blade was a bit to thick. So I switched to the small reg seb she carried and it worked beautifully. At first I thought it would have been a bit to small, but alas, worked awesome

My small Damascus/Bocote inlay will be here tomorrow!
Love the smalls.

Yes it is small, cutting abilities are large - imho.
For me the small has the percfect size for the front pocket, with lots of cutting power.
The clip is removed and an insert takes it's place.

I have a similar story, I'm used to larger folders, but since I had a few larges and an Umnum I thought I needed the small. Once I got it I realized it didn't seem right, it was just to small. I even posted a thread about it here I think. Fast forward a few months and now I'm craving a small again b/c you get a good amount of blade in such a small package. Like Powernoodle showed its got the amount of edge as a Para2.
Live and learn I guess;

I am in the other camp. I can't use a small..at all. If I can't see the end of the grip in my closed hand, I don't want it. You gotta know I've tried. I've had maybe seven or more small Sebs in various flavors and have sold them again quickly. Here's what I mean...where did the knife go? I can't find it!

Back to the large. Here are my tried and true Sebs that have survived.
This one is Oh..so smooth and nice.

...and this one arrived yesterday. Took a long time for this one to join my party. Instant group hug.

Oh Yeah, I found this one trying to hide outside. He is afraid that I'll banish him just because I cannot close his blade one-handed. I do love him, though. My very first CRK.

It really depends on what you're use to. I've had my small for about a year now and when I held a large it felt excessively large. Once you get use to it though you'll probably carry the small a lot more than you carry the large. It's just a lot more of a practical size IMO.

^ I agree. It's all about what you're used to. I mostly use smaller pocket knives, including the small Sebenza, and when I got the large Sebenza it felt huge!. After using the large Sebenza for a while, the small one felt tiny. But, when I first got the small Sebenza I was impressed by how much cutting edge it packs (as illustrated above).

This summer I used mostly a ladybug and an ESEE Candiru during my vacation. When I got home even my Caly 3 felt huge :D. The small Sebenza is definitely more convenient as a pocket knife.

I should be receiving my newly acquired small seb in the mail this afternoon, and as others have mentioned, I too am looking forward to its practicality. I own a Manix 2 and have a Grimsmo Norseman on order, so I think the small seb will fit right in with its 2 big brothers and probably get the most pocket time.

Like a lot of others mentioned you get so much cutting edge packed into a convenient, easy to carry package; a real plus if you don’t like excessive bulk in your pockets.

I carry a small much more than a large. But like the OP mentions, a medium would be perfect. I've said that before though, and don't think it will ever happen.

I have had the same experience as many others here. I started my CRK love affair with a large unique graphic 21. It just felt too big for my front pocket, and for my hand. So, I bought a small Insingo. When I took it out of the box, I thought, "Wow, this is tiny! And sooo light!" But then I started carrying it and using it. I found it was just perfect for me--it disappears in my front pocket and cuts like a big knife. It easily handles 100% of my cutting needs. Sweet!

And for those guys with large hands, I offer an suggestion. If you like the blade length, but not the scale length, try using the type lanyard I will describe. The CRK lanyard is great, but what I find more useful is running a length of paracord through the lanyard pin, then tie a lanyard knot very close to the butt end of the scale. The knot effectively makes the scale "longer". Then when you hold the knife, tuck the knot between your ring finger and pinky as you grasp the knife. It gives you a really solid, locked in grip. I did this to a Curtiss Nano (very small bugger!) and it saved me from that useless feeling you get when you have fingers dangling off the back of the knife with nothing for them to grap.

The scales are small, but the cutting length of the blade is about the size of a Para 2. So its small on the outside and big on the inside. Magic.

I think this is something that a lot of people miss; the Sebenzas have a good "blade-to-handle ratio", and it really shows on the small Sebenza.
