...at least the portion of it depicted by Santa Fe Stonework's iconic "Earthling" design which has been offered on the Police for almost 20 years now. It got a bit smaller in recent years, when a variation of it occasionally found its way onto a Delica. However, that "downsizing" was relatively minor when compared with the request I made to Bill Wirtel last August - to shrink the design down to fit a Kiwi. Considering that the Police handle offers about a 5" X 1.25" "canvas", while the Kiwi's scale area is a mere 2" X 5/8", or less than a quarter of that. Even Bill was not sure if Stan Lance and Andrew Mancuso, the two gentlemen responsible for all Santa Fe's wood marquetry designs, could pull it off. Bottom line, it took a while, but they could, they did, and I think I will let the results speak for themselves. First shot to show the size difference...

They also made another variation on the design, using an orange stone for Saturn instead of the Dolomite traditionally used on the Earthlings. Bill's daughter, Anna, calls it "Tequila Sunrise". Naturally, I had to get one of them too...

One last shot of the Tequila Sunrise. Thought some Mexican Crazy Lace Agate would make a fitting background for it...

These two have been alternating in my pocket since they arrived last week. :D

Fantastic! Every time I see pictures of these SFSW knives, I come closer to buying one. Those guys do awesome stuff.

Just curious,

but why do people consider any knife "scary" looking?

It's only a tool.

Hi Paul, congratulations and thanks for the pics. Enjoy your new beautiful knives.

It ain't fair! That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

But it sure is gorgeous :D

Yep, that's me, green with envy.

Thanks Sal, Bill, Stan, Andrew, and Anna really deserve a lot of credit for making these two a reality.

Thanks Matt, I agree. They're outta this world for sure.

You carry those works of art in your pocket !

LOL - Very nice work ~ ; - )
Hi Harold, Yes, I'm careful with them, but not obsessively so. They're too pretty not to carry, and too well designed not to use.

Fantastic! Every time I see pictures of these SFSW knives, I come closer to buying one. Those guys do awesome stuff.
Hi rocketbomb, Yes they do, between Bill and his crew, and the gents who do the Painted Desert marquetry, there's one major pool of talent.

Not "scary" looking the an Endura or Police either.
Well spyderco endura, working as I do in a government office, there are times when that's a definite advantage for me.

Just curious,

but why do people consider any knife "scary" looking?

Harold, Why does a shark or a baracuda look "scary" while a marlin or a dophin does not? Why are many people afraid of all snakes when only some are poisonous? Why would many more people describe an AK-47 or M-16 as scary than would apply that term to a Holland & Holland double rifle or a classic Mannlicher-Schonauer carbine? Sure they're only tools but I'd bet more people would classify a dentist's drill as scary than would a dremel tool. Human nature is not always logical, and what seems logical to me may not seem logical to you.

Nice addition to the kiwi flock Paul. Congrats!
regards,Rick.

Chuck, If it's any consolation, I say the same thing every time I see Sean Connery's face or hear Jame Earl Jone's voice. ;) :D

not of this earth
Brian, Yep, outta this world. :D

BANG! Thats the sound my jaw did when hitting the keyboard.. AMAZING!

Enjoy Paul!
Hope you didn't hurt yourself Jano! Santa Fe sends them wrapped up like mummys in tissue paper and I have to admit, I forgot to breath for so long I damn near fainted when I unwrapped the first one.

Wow - lots of genius in that pair. Spyderco for the knife, you for requesting the embellishment , and Santa Fe folk for making it happen. Thanks for the inspiring pics!

those are very cool Paul, it is always fun to see what you think up to put on your next canvas of kiwi.
