The Solo -

I' ve had a few of these and some of the "Bird and Trout" series, both importerd from Japan, some years back. I think the "Solo" series are a good quality "non- tactical" folder especially for those who don' t prefer a pocket clip. Mine came with leather pouches.

The "Solo" is a Spyderco designed (actually one of mine) model to be used as a "gentleman's folder". The original design was based on a "lobe" to facilitate one hand open. No sharp edges to be uncomfortable in the pocket. Thin, light and fairly ergonomic.

The are two sizes; Solo and Solo too. the smaller Solo was also made in a FRN.

We began promoting the design about 10 yers ago, but ran into delivery problems and the maker could never really make enough to warrant promotion.

Spyderco owns the name "Solo". The name has also been used to create an odd model here and there, such as; the Titanium kitchen knife.

When dealer support wasn't there for the "Solo" line, the line became an Ironstone esclusive. When Ironstone closed up it's mail order operation, the excess inventory was offered to our direct dealers.

Fred has been cooperative with our requirements and took the opportunity. The knives were made in Seki and are indeed "custom quality" and certaily well worth the price asked.

That longer Solo is a great design--slim, trim and decent blade length for its OA size. Could never find it in plain edge though.....

Hmmm Hmmm, looks like a very nice model. I really like that classic look over the navigator, co-pilot style. But then again, I've never owned a Navigator....

Thanks for the replies.
