The sound of the Spyderco lock....

This is not about what lock you prefer, but what has the best sound. I love the sound of the Compression Lock, followed by the Liner lock, especially in my Gayle Bradley. To me CBBL and Back Locks are boring. There sound is very generic.

The sound of the well-crafted frame lock of a Zero Tolerance knife (0561, 0801) locking into place is a favorite of mine. It's very reassuring. The compression lock certainly scores closely, though.

I dig the cbbl sound. Honestly they're all different and interesting in their own way.

Omg, I can't believe nobody is saying back-lock! If we are going purely on sound, I'll take a big back-lock over any of them!

One of the reasons I started this thread was because of a Cold Steel Lawman I own, and never carry. While not technically a back lock, it is so freakin loud that I once scared my dog when I first got it. It is the opposite of my compression locks. That Lawman screams "hey, look over here.....that guy just opened a knife!"

I do like back locks, I have just heard that same click since the early 70's when I got my Buck 110.

You need to hear one of the older 4mm models. They sound generic, like a bank vault generic! I also like the sound of the Military's liner lock. Does anyone else notice a sound difference from the older locks to the newer? Perhaps the back-spacer material is what changes the sound (aluminum vs G-10)?

While spyderco is my favorite brand, my favorite lock "sounds" go to the axis, the g&g hawk lock followed by spyderco's cbb lock and cold steel triad. The axis and hawk lock have a very mechanical "double click" that I just find extremely satisfying. The compression lock is one of my favorites, but for it's smoothness and ease to manipulate, not for it's sound. I noticed some like the comp because it is quiet, which I can understand, especially in certain situations, but for nothing other than my satisfaction, I like when my locks have a nice sturdy "locked in" sound.

GB is the best followed by a Sage 1. Both Liner locks obviously. But my endura 4 since taking it apart and cleaning is a really great snap.
