The Spoontang

Looks like a variation of the ancient Maori mere/patu clubs(which is a misleading name, as they were fairly sharp, and were used by jabbing or striking with the edge):

Or, 800 years from now!

Fantastic looking piece. The originality, freedom and creativity that spawns from the lack of any biased mindset or preconceived patterns can yield some Great pieces as evidenced here.

Great job all around.

Great points. Making something for yourself can also aid in coming up with something different. For us, we need to stock knives that people will buy, whether it be from looks or by well known makers. If we could stock stuff that we liked or thought was cool, that may be different.

It's really cool looking and I bet it will be very functional and comfortable in hand. What's the weight and how's the balance?

It weight 5.8 oz at the moment, and balances just behind the jimping.

WOW  I just heard what the final plans are for this thing, but I won't spoil the surprise!

I was going to guess naked polar bear hunting.

At the zoo.

Baby seal nap machine? I love the love of that thing btw.

I love that, it's like a stone blackjack!

Baby seal nap machine?

The Spoontang or the polar bear? :D

That's absurd. Naked polar bears in zoos don't hunt, they get fed!

You got it all wrong. Its something I'd hunt a polar bear with while I'm naked at the zoo.

Yeah, totally different techniques using them though. Favored strikes with the mere/patu were a chop to the temple with the edge of the "blade", or a jab to the throat or sternum. Once the opponent was downed, they were usually finished off by a hammerfist blow to the skull, using the pommel.
