Hi All

First post here. Been a Spyderco fan for some years. My EDC usually drifts back to the Calypso JR, or maybe a PE Dragonfly if in dress slacks.

My post is really about the " The Spyderco Story" book. I was browsing a knife site that also advertises knives they are interested in buying, and they are looking to buy the book as well. Is it out of print and hard to get?

Hard copy is out of print, and yes they are somewhat tough to find, but there is a paperback version that is still available, but I can't remember where. Sorry.

I purchased one late... approx 6 months ago. It took just a bit of searching on the Web and I found someplace that still had a new one. I think if you do a bit of looking online you should be able to locate one, do a Google search and start contacting.

Good Luck.

Due to short supply and heavy demand, it seems Paladin Press has published a small run of paperbacks. Kinda pricey but so was the hardcover. It's available here.

Cheers. ;)

why is the book so pricey ? Ive seen them for 40 to 60 bucks ? cant understand why ?

the spyderco.com site has them available at MSRP. I thought I remember seeing seeing someone selling them over MSRP.

Not only is it out of stock and out of print, but it is out of date ! This is the fate of any such book. I had a post on the Spyderco Forum suggesting that annual updates be written. I even volunteered to do it.....but not a reply, so I deleted the post in disgust.

I did not have another book in mind, but just a few pages with a listing of knives made in that year, some statistics and some interesting inside information. This could be put on a website as a Word or PDF document.

Hi Mike, i saw your post on the Spyderco forum. The question about the Spyderco book beeing outdated is largely correct, but the book itself is not worthless it just needs a second volume with the new models.

There have been talks in the past about writing a vol II. The fact that no one answers doesn't mean that it isn't considered. It's a very busy time this year for the Spyderco crew and making a second volume like volume 1 will be hard and tedious work.

Maybe you should drop Sal a personal note and start making a raw version of vol II. It's always better to convince when you have a decent amount of information at hand then just a thought.

But please continue with your work, i would certainly buy a second edition.

Hi Mongo-Man

Thanks for that. Maybe I should re-write the post that I deleted.

I think the Spyderco Story is a great book ! A second volume would be great, though. I don't have enough Spyderco info to even begin, as I have only been involved in collecting for jus over a year. But you are right. I should at least make a start. Perhaps a page or two for each missing year, and then add information as it comes in.

Cheers

Mik

First of all, I do not believe that it was a book authored by Spyderco. Contact the real author or write it yourself. Get a publisher to print it, a distributor to handle it for you and you're all done. Oh wait a minute....next year someone will be hollering that your voume is out of date.

I own the book more as an interesting read on the history and philosophy of Spyderco and Mr. Glesser. Catalogs, readily available from Spyderco, are for looking at what is current.
