The story on the lack of Guyot bottles

I emailed Guyot about the scarcity of their steel water bottles:
I've been on the lookout for your stainless steel bottles for months now but no one ever has them in stock. There have been rumours about you getting bought by Naglene and other rumours about problems with the factory in china.
What's the real story?

And they responded:
There is some truth to both rumors. There is such high demand for the bottles right now that we can not keek up with the demand and when we get shipments in, they just fly right off the shelves. So we are trying a partner ship with Nalgene for just our bottles with the hope that their credit will allow us to build up the needed supply and we will be able to order in the 100's of thousand untis rather than 10 of thousands. On top of this, there have been delays in the factory. It has nothing to do with the factory being in China, but apparently there is a shortage of stainless steel in the world right now so we are dealing with the delays caused by that as well.

The first Nalgene partnered bottles will arrive in mid August. At this stage we hope to be able to build up a reserve of bottles.

thank you!

Given the kick in the nuts that Nalgene has received due to the composition of their Lexan bottles, this is a good business deal all the way around. I hope Nalgene puts their best effort to market the Guyot bottles...there's definitely a market and demand for them. Thanks for the news and update!

hhmm.. i had no idea there was a shortage on those... everyone seems to have them here in santa cruz....

the rockclimbing gym, i climb at has 2 different versions a cool short stubby one and a bigger one... drop me a line if you want me to pick one up for you...

I just opted for a Kleen Canteen. not quite as cool as the Guyot, but I can boil water in it.

My wife ordered two from them for my birthday last month we got them both right away without a wait. They mustve gotten short handed after that.

thanks to the "plastic bottles bad" hysteria generated by a bunch of liberal eco-nazi hippies at MEC, Nalgene lost millions of $$ in bottle sales. I'm glad Nalgene has partnered with Guyot, hopefully they can get back some lost revenues.

The funny part is the same people that blasted Nalgene are the ones buying the stainless steel bottles..........too funny.

Yes it is. Not to hijack, but I will and still carry my devil leeching bottles from hell. I still like nalgene, and will still buy their stuff.

Those have the neat bail on them don't they?

I got a similar bottle the other day. Probably not as nice and only 850ml.

The threads of those bottles are plastic and in thirty seconds of fiddling at the store I didn't think that I could get it off. It would melt if you try to boil water in it.

The guyot bottles are completely steel and the plastic lid detaches so you can put it in a fire.

I've got two 27oz Kleen Kanteens as well. They're really nice but they're a little narrow so I've had trouble keeping them stable while boiling water. I haven't actually seen the larger diameter 40oz ones yet.

Yeah... what a crock about the nalgene plastic. Geez... how did people get cancer before Nalgene plastic bottles :confused::confused:.

Anyway... I have 2 Guyots on order because i like the idea of a Nuclear nalgene, that I can boil water in.

Maybe a crock, maybe not. I know that I always got a smell from the polycarb bottles that smelled like lead pencils and yes, I washed them. :D

Anyway, I'm much happier with my Guyot. The fact that you can boil water in it sells it to me. The inclusion of some kind of vessel in a PSK to boil water always seemed to be a problem. The Guyot solves that.

I wasn't aware of the cancer issue. The issues I've read with BPA's were more hormone related causing issues like low sperm count, hyperactivity, early puberty, obesity, small testes size, enlarged prostates, chromosomal abnormalities in children, etc.

May be all "Chicken Little" ramblings, but we aren't chancing it with two small children - it was worth the more than a few bucks to us. We've cleaned house - went to Guyot and CamelBak Better Bottles.

Just a quick real-world experience on the Guyot bottles. I ordered the Standard 38 oz direct from the Guyot web site on 6/17. I received the shipping notice today (7/24).
