The Struggle of being a "New Guy"

Awesome! :D

I'm looking at four digit knives now (as a grail of course) and it's really proving hard to stop the spending... :(

When I read this I was happy that my "Grail" is only around 750...
Then I realized it is in Euro, which is about $ 1012 *sighs* So four digits for me too...

If the only rule you can make yourself follow is #1, at least you will limit yourself to 12 knives a year.

That's actually what I'm doing this year, well not carrying each new one for a month straight, I still do the daily rotation thing, but I'm limiting myself to 1 knife purchase per month, my January knife was Sage 1, I already got my Feburary knife, a Domino, and actually I have my monthly purchases lined up threw may but no matter what I'm sticking to it regardless of how good a deal I find or how badly I want some new knife I discover.

I like that idea. I managed to limit myself to one new knife this month, and its almost February....time to start internet shopping :D

QFT!

Welcome to the forum!

I remember shopping for my first modern folder. I looked at the mid-grade Spyderco line (i.e. Manix, Sage, etc) and thought, "Wow! Who pays $80+ for a knife?" I settled for a Tenacious and thought I was "splurging" at around $30.

Fast forward a couple of years. My last several purchases have been in the three-digits. Just today I pulled the trigger on a William Henry E10. And I'm eying a Sebenza 21, Strider SNG, and William Henry Atlas.

So many knives, so little time.

exactly. 6-7 months ago tenacious was a splurge. then i got a blur and broke the 100 barrier with a 350. i tried to stay as close as I could to 100 for a while. 100 was like the shore. I didnt want to swim too far away from it, but I had to check out the yojimbo. then I HAD to have a paramilitary at 155. in the last month I have bought an adamas for 160, a zt0560 for @200 delivered, a lionsteel sr1 for 180...now 200 seems entirely reasonable amount to spend on a good knife....I think ive hit my plateau. I think. there's so much you can buy for around 200 or less, especially used. I feel like the next rung is 400 sebenza, strider etc...

reading this thread is blowing my mind. my girl thought I ws nuts when I had 4 knives...now she doesnt know how many I have :) but its prob about 1k in knives now...

actually now that I think about its closer to 2k....
forgot about superleaf
sage 1
manix serrated
manix ffg
2 lightweight manix
zt0200
kershaw rake...
manix xl
