It's a Kavu "chillba" hat.

I feel like Raiden from the Mortal Kombat game when I wear that thing. It's a great desert hiking hat....plus people look at you like your crazy.

You can pan for gold with it too.

Dude, I was just going to ask if that hat gave you the ability to shoot lightning bolts at me! :D

Awesome pics though, several were saved to 'The Folder'. (And no, not that folder, that's a different one.)

Awesome pics. That looks like an awesome spot to cool off, with great views! I dig the hat too :D

Nice pics. I've done the Das Boot entraence last year, and it was really nice. The Subway is an awesome place to visit, especially the lower part up to the "Subway".

That is so cool. One of these days when I am visiting my parents in Hurricane I'm going to have to get to the subway.

Wonderful pics! I love that part of the country! I need to go there sometime soon......

Oh my god, can't believe I hadn't seen this thread yet. I'm am so jealous that is such a great playground. Beautiful pics.

Hey, did you have to get a permit to hike the subway? If so, whats the process? Is it a huge pain in the ass? Thanks in advance.

Permits are issued from the backcountry desk at the park visitor center. There are 50 permits issued per day. You can get Subway permits up to three days in advance from the VC. They cost $5 per person. Or you can reserve a spot up to a month in advance by calling 435.772.0172

Try to avoid weekends if you can. I have been through the canyon 3 times and never really saw too many people. A lot of people hike up from the bottom to the Subway area and avoid the fun stuff. If you don't have anything more than hiking skills going from the bottom is easier.

It isn't really technical at all. I always got by with just a 40 foot handline of tubular webbing. No need for a harness, wetsuit or a lot of other stuff people bring.

Oh, it's also known as the Left Fork of North Creek. The Subway just refers to the hollowed out area.
