The Sunday Picture Show... (1-8-2012)

I didn't work there yet I hope studied information counts.
That model (107)has a disjointed history and came out in 1976 with a stainless finger guard which was dropped in 84. Prior to this the same model only with the old English script stamp 'centered' on the left side came out in 73 w/ the Empress Trio set having 3 small pins. Buck came out w/ the Windsor Set model 206 in 77 with 6 of these same knives w/ the same centered 2 line stamp and had serrations. In 84 the handle pins went from 3 small to 2 large. This same model 206 set was brought back in 1990 w/ 3 medium size handle pins and a horizontal old English script two line stamp w/ various handle materials. It is of this era that I think yours came from as it has a different grind. DM

Tony, You get cold taking that photo? Haebbie, I like your 116 web special or build out. DM

Yes David, Actually very cold taking both pics. The icy one was taken at Point Lookout Maryland, where the Potomac River meets the Chesapeake Bay. Interesting area.

Here is my latest a Sterling 526C just floated in from the Bay

Great show as always.

Hi folks -

sitflyer - that is maple burl on that JK 112. It is not as smoky as your Madrone burl, but it has a lot of interesting figuring.

Here are some pictures of a knife that I bought that was described as a "Buck steak knife prototype".

I initially thought it may be a factory mock-up prior to the Empress collection, but after I received the knife and looked around the web a little, I now believe it is an example of a 107 Scout Knife.

The knife is somewhat small, approx 7 3/4" overall with a 4" blade. The handles may be ivory micarta. The blade is not completely finished - looking like it had just the initial grind.

If anyone who worked or works at Buck has any info on this one I would be very interested in hearing the stories.

Thanks and best regards -

I saw that! I think you are right, worth more than you paid!

Thanks Dave -

Do you know if the factory used this ivory-colored micarta material for internal use for proofing new designs?

I apologize to ITE for hijacking his thread with this new knife and the question.

Thanks Jerad - I just had to buy it since I was the only bidder. It may not be worth much, but it will be a cool little piece of Buck history.

best regards -

Dang....I've missed two or three SPS already.

Just popping in to say hello to everyone. I am home for a day and am catching up on some computer stuff and cleaning up some gear. Over 125 emails to go through.

I've been out hiking and got about 270 miles of the Florida National Scenic Trail done. Got more to go before I can get back here and add some pictures.

I have been carrying one of the web special Alpha Crosslocks with me and have enjoyed using it on the Trail. I'll have to get a few pictures of it along the way to post here when I get the Trail done.

Been seeing lots of hogs, some deer, alligators, bald eagles, many hawks, a few snakes. Was walking along the Trail yesterday and had a momma hog and one baby stop for a split second to look at me before they ran off to my right. I got out my camcorder and got a quick video of two larger hogs and some young 'uns run right in front of me. I did see one set of panther tracks and lots of bear tracks, but haven't seen any of those buggers yet.

Spent near three days walking through Big Cypress swamp. A full 24 hours in water, but found a small dry island to sleep on that night.

Been a good walk so far.

I'll check in when I can, but won't be able to post here for another 3 or 4 weeks. See ya'll then. :)
